MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT SHIELDS DRIVE/NORTH PLANTATION DRIVE, DUNKIRK - OCTOBER 31ST, 2018

    On October 31, 2018 at 10:01 p.m. deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Shields Drive and North Plantation Drive, Dunkirk, Maryland for the report of a cardiac arrest. Upon arrival it was determined that a 36 year old male from Dunkirk, identified as John Francis Earl Jr., jumped from a moving vehicle. The operator of the vehicle was a 28 year old female from Dunkirk identified as Sarah E. Martin. Ms. Martin and Mr. Earl were having an argument while traveling south on Shields Drive when Mr. Earl opened the passenger door and jumped from the vehicle. The vehicle was traveling approximately 30mph. Mr. Earl was severely injured when he struck the pavement. Lifesaving efforts were initiated on the scene until EMS arrived. Mr. Earl was flown to Prince Georges Hospital Center in critical but stable condition. Mr. Earl remains in critical but stable condition at this time. Members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit are actively investigating this accident. Anyone with any information is urged to contact Dfc.
