Calvert County Crime Solvers and the Calvert County
Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person(s)
responsible for numerous incidents of graffiti in the Whispering Woods
subdivision in Prince Frederick in late September of this year. House windows, a mailbox, a lamp post and
several vehicles had vulgarities written on them in both permanent and washable
marker. Damage is estimated at $200.
Citizens with information on these crimes or any criminal

Attempted Burglary Case #14-59030:
A homeowner in the 8300 block of Bayside Road in Chesapeake Beach
reported to DFC C. Fox that on October 20, it appeared someone tried to break
into her home through the back door.
Entry was not made and nothing was taken. The investigation continues.
Burglary Case #14-59162:
DFC J. Lord is investigating a burglary at a home in the 10600 block of
Fielder Court in Dunkirk. A jar of money
and a guitar were stolen during the break-in that happened sometime between
October 18 and 20.
Destruction of Property Case #14-59314:
A homeowner on Armory Road in Prince Frederick advised DFC R. Kreps
that on October 21 around 9:30 p.m. she heard a bang and when she went outside
to investigate, she discovered that her cable lines had been cut.
Theft from Vehicle Case #14-59463:
DFC J. Denton is investigating the theft of a TV/stereo set from a
vehicle parked outside a home on Serenity Court in Prince Frederick overnight
between October 22 and 23.
Thefts from Vehicles Cases#14-59606 and
14-59709:
Vehicles at two homes on Calvert Towne Drive in Prince Frederick were
entered and items were stolen from within between October 22 and 24. The cases are being investigated by Deps.
Idol and Wood.
Theft from Vehicles Case #14-59669:
Two vehicles parked outside a home on Brians Way in Lusby had items
stolen from them overnight between October 23 and 24. Dep. Trigg is investigating.
Burglary Case #14-59943:
Dfc C. Fox is investigating a burglary to a home in the 3900 block of
17th Street in Chesapeake Beach that happened on October 25 between
8:30 a.m. and 2:27 p.m. A flat screen
television set was taken. The investigation continues.

PRESS RELEASE FOR LUSBY SHELL ROBBERY
On Saturday October 18 at 10:05 p.m. the night clerk of the
Lusby Shell on H.G. Trueman Road reported an armed robbery. He stated that a black male entered the
store, covered his face, presented a handgun, announced the robbery, threatened
him with the handgun and fled the store with most of the business’ money. Sgt. C. Parsons and Sgt. R. Cox coordinated
resources and members from both the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office including
the K9 team, and the Maryland State Police including their aviation department,
however, no apprehension or sighting of the suspect was made.
Det. H. Rich of the Calvert Investigative Bureau determined
that the lone suspect was a black male in his late 20s or early 30s. He was short, 5’6” to 5’7” tall, with a thin
to average build. He had short, one inch
long, black hair and a medium to dark complexion. The suspect was wearing a light gray, hooded
sweatshirt which he pulled around his face.
The suspect entered the store, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at
the clerk’s torso area then stated “give me all the money”. The suspect brought
a black cloth draw string bag which he held open. The clerk put the cash in the bag and the
suspect fled. The suspect fled past the
front window of the store and was last seen running southeast into the Chesapeake
Ranch Estates. The clerk was not hurt.

Destruction of Property Case #14-57645:
On October 13 at 4:13 p.m. DFC R. Wilson arrested two men and charged
them each with trespass, operating an off-road vehicle on property, destruction
of property less than $1,000 and disorderly conduct. A Chesapeake Ranch Estates Security Officer
had earlier advised Wilson that he and another witness had observed the two men
riding a four wheeler on the runway in CRE as well as on the roadway. They damaged the grassy area of the
runway. The witnesses advised they saw
the two men park the four wheeler at a home in CRE, then get into a passenger
vehicle and leave the area. Wilson ran
the tag number of the passenger vehicle and drove over to that address. The suspect vehicle arrived at the house and
contact was made with the two suspects.

Disorderly Conduct Case #14-57708:
On October 14 at 3:00 a.m. DFC P. Mosely responded to the area of
Chesapeake Village Drive at Lawrin Court in Chesapeake Beach for the report of
three people yelling in the street.
Mosely made contact with the three subjects. They advised they had gotten into an argument
earlier. Mosely could detect a strong
odor of alcohol. They were advised to go
home. Fifteen minutes later Mosely
received another call for disorderly subjects yelling and walking through the
same neighborhood but he was unable to locate anyone. About 15 minutes later he received a third
call for the same thing. He made contact
with the same three subjects from earlier.
One of the subjects, later identified as Brenna Erin Bateman, 21 of
Upper Marlboro, started to yell and curse.
Another of the subjects, later identified as Ray Clinton Kinzer, 22 of
Chesapeake Beach, also began to yell.
They were both placed under arrest and charged with public intoxication
and disorderly conduct. The third
subject was not arrested and was sent on her way.

Burglary Case #14-58163:
On October 15 between 5:00 p.m. and midnight, someone entered a home in
the 3900 block of 17th Street in Chesapeake Beach and stole a 42
inch LG television set. DFC C. Fox is
investigating.
CDS Violation Case #14-58183:
On October 16 at 10:43 a.m. DFC C. Fox responded to the 9000 block of
Chesapeake Avenue in North Beach for the report of a male walking around
smoking a possible controlled dangerous substance. Fox made contact with the man, identified as
Robert Henry Munson, 66 of Chesapeake Beach, and subsequently issued him with a
civil citation for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams.

Destruction of Property Case #14-58218:
DFC A. Locke is investigating damage done to a vehicle parked in the
driveway of a home in the 1800 block of Higgens Lane in Huntingtown overnight
between October 15 and 16. Someone broke
out the driver’s side window.
Theft Case #14-58289:
On October 16 during the daytime hours, someone stole a green Hot
Wheels bicycle on Sanford Lane in Owings.

Destruction of Property Case #14-58606:
Someone caused damage to the yard of a home in the 70 block of Dares
Wharf Road in Prince Frederick sometime between October 13 and 16. DFC J. Denton is investigating.
Theft Case #14-58792:
Overnight entry into a vehicle was made between October 18 and 19 in
the 4700 block of Williams Wharf Road in St. Leonard. A handheld fire department radio was
stolen. Dep. T. Holt is investigating.
Theft Case #14-58825:
Between October
17 at 1:00 p.m. and October 19 someone stole a dark green Yama golf cart valued
at $5,000 from outside a home in the 2700 block of Adelina Road in Prince
Frederick. The owner advised that a
silver skull and crossbones logo is on the cart. Anyone with information is asked to contact

PRESS RELEASE FOR SMOOTH OPERATOR AWARDS
Dfc. J. Bell
and Dep. W. Beisel were recently recognized by the Maryland Highway Safety
Office for their outstanding efforts with the Smooth Operator program. These Calvert County Sheriff’s Office
deputies, as well as police officers throughout the state, attended a luncheon
in Greenbelt, Maryland on September 29.
The Smooth Operator campaign targets motorists exhibiting aggressive
driving behaviors. The campaign runs for five weeks throughout the summer
months beginning in June and ending in September. Deputies issued a total of
1579 warnings, 873 citations and removed 63 impaired drivers from our roadways
during the Smooth Operator campaign. The
funding for Smooth Operator is provided by grants through the Maryland Highway
Safety Office and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The CCSO is
provided crash data from the Maryland Highway Safety Office and coordinates
targeted enforcement efforts along problematic roadways in our
communities. There are 652 people
injured on average annually from 2008 to 2012 in Calvert County crashes. On average from 2009 to 2013 there are 9
citizens killed annually on Calvert County roadways. The men and women of the Calvert County
Sheriff’s Office will continue to conduct traffic enforcement in an effort to
keep Calvert County roadways safe. We will do our part to help reduce the
number of citizens injured in crashes and to Work Toward Zero Deaths.

PRESS RELEASE FOR NEW CALVERT DEPUTIES
The newest deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office
will be pinned at the Commissioner’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, October 21 at
10:00 a.m. The four deputies, Derick
Alan Clark, Timothy David Mohler, Brian David Pounsberry and Shea Paul Rediker,
will all be present, along with their families and friends.
A ceremony commemorating graduation from the Southern
Maryland Criminal Justice Academy, located in Nanjemoy, will take place on
Thursday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m. at Calvert High School.
The public is invited to attend both ceremonies.

Theft Case #14-56279:
Unknown suspect(s) pulled up some removable fencing belonging to the
Drum Point Property Owners Association and threw it in a grassy area near a
pond on Laurel Way in Lusby. All but one
6x6 post was recovered and replaced, undamaged.
The damage occurred sometime between October 3 and 6. Anyone with information is asked to contact

Burglary Case #14-56304:
Unknown
suspect(s) burglarized a home in the 5800 block of Eucalyptus Drive in St.
Leonard on October 7 between 4:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. A Samsung television and jewelry was
stolen. The total amount of damage and
theft loss is estimated at $2,400. Dep.
M. Trigg is investigating.
Theft Case #14-56325:
Someone stole
$195 worth of copper pipe from a business on Keith Lane in Owings between
September 30 and October 6. The piping
had been inside a company owned vehicle.

Destruction of Property Case #14-56471:
A Takeuchi skid
steer construction vehicle’s windshield was shot with what appear to be BB’s or
pellets on Armory Road in Prince Frederick between October 6 and 7. Please contact Dep. M. Trigg at 410-535-2800

CDS Violation Case #14-56516:
On October 7 at
1:02 p.m. Dep. C. Idol was on routine patrol in the Whispering Woods
subdivision in Prince Frederick near the playground. He stopped to investigate a vehicle occupied
by two males with a woman standing next to it.
As he got close to the car he could smell a strong odor of raw
marijuana. Dep. M. Trigg and Cpl. A.
Moschetto arrived on the scene to assist.
The two men and one woman were asked to sit on the curb, both males
complied. The woman, identified as
Tabitha Marie Wilson, 20 of St. Leonard, became belligerent and began to yell
vulgar language toward the officers. She
was placed under arrest and charged with obstructing and hindering a law
officer, failure to obey a lawful order and possession of drug paraphernalia; a
Philly blunt. One of the males, Jordan
Roderick Bell, 19 of Prince Frederick, was arrested and charged with possession
of marijuana in sufficient quantity to indicate an intent to distribute, and
possession of drug paraphernalia; rolling papers, cigars and scales.

Burglary Case #14-56721:
Between 8:45
a.m. and 2:20 p.m. on October 8, unknown suspect(s) broke into a home in the
7600 block of Bond Street in St. Leonard and stole over $16,000 of property and
jewelry belonging to the homeowner. Dep.
L. Kelly is handling the investigation.
Burglary Case #14-56761:
Someone
burglarized a home in the 5000 block of Brandywine Street in St. Leonard on
October 8 between 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and stole cash, a Samsung laptop and
a black Apple IPad. DFC P. Wood is
investigating.
Theft of Mail Case #14-56839:
A victim
advised Dep. N. Gilmore that between 10:38 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on October 8
someone stole a package that had been delivered to her mailbox on West Avenue
in Prince Frederick. Dep. Gilmore is
investigating.

PRESS RELEASE FOR PET AMNESTY WEEK 2014
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit will be holding
its 6th annual Amnesty Week for pet owners to purchase pet licenses at a
reduced cost. The event will be held
during the week of November 3-9, 2014.
Licenses may only be purchased at the reduced price at the following
locations and times: the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office November 3, & 5-7
from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and November 8 & 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m.; the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department on November 3 from 5:30 p.m. to
7:30 p.m.; the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department on November 5 from
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and the Solomons Volunteer Fire Department on November
6 from 5:30 p.m. to7:30 p.m. The cost
for a spayed/neutered pet will be $3.00 and non-spayed/non-neutered pets will
be $10.00. A copy of the pet’s current
rabies vaccination and proof of spay or neuter will need to be provided to
purchase the pet license. Cash or check
will be accepted.

Theft Case #14-55022:
Someone stole the contents of a package that had been delivered to a
mailbox at the end of the driveway of a home on Secret Court in Lusby sometime
between September 27 and 29. The box had
been opened and left on the ground underneath the mailbox. Dep. D. Naughton is investigating the theft
of two school books.
Theft Case #14-55032:
Three packages that had been delivered to a mailbox on Walsh Lane in
Lusby were stolen on September 29. Dep.
W. Durner is investigating.
Attempted Burglary Case #14-55132:
A homeowner on Gunsmoke Trail in Lusby advised DFC R. Wilson that they
heard a noise on September 30 at 2:27 a.m. coming from the bedroom window. After looking outside they observed a vehicle
driving slowly away from their home.
Nothing was taken and entry into the home was not made. The investigation is continuing.
Destruction of Property Case #14-55243:
A victim on Herring Way in St. Leonard advised Dep. T. Holt that
sometime between 11:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on September 30, someone damaged his
vehicle by breaking a taillight and then opening the trunk. Nothing was taken.
Disorderly Intoxication Case #14-55842:
On October 3 at 4:45 p.m. DFC J. Denton responded to the area of Main
Street at Duke Street in Prince Frederick for the report of an intoxicated
person stumbling in the roadway. This
was the second call for service for this subject. Contact was made with the subject, identified
as Steven James Hartle, 49, of Prince Frederick, who appeared to be intoxicated
and was walking in the roadway causing motorists to swerve into oncoming lanes
to avoid hitting him. He was charged
with intoxication and endangering the safety of the citizens of Calvert County.

Burglary Case #14-55847:
Unknown suspect(s) burglarized a home in the 900 block of Josh Way in
St. Leonard on October 3 between 5:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and stole
jewelry. DFC J. Bell is investigating.
Burglary Case #14-55862:
A home in the 5800 block of Valley Drive in St. Leonard was broken into
on October 3 during the daytime hours.
Nothing was taken but damage is estimated at $2,000. Dep. L. Kelly is continuing the
investigation.
Burglary Case #14-55926:
Moe’s Southwest Grill in Lusby is the scene of a burglary that occurred
on October 4 at 4:23 a.m. The culprit(s)
used a heavy object to break the front door, gaining access to the
restaurant. No currency was stolen. DFC R. Wilson is actively investigating this
case.
Burglary Case #14-55928:
A home in the 4800 block of Breezy Point Road in Chesapeake Beach was
burglarized on October 3 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Nothing was stolen but an unknown amount of
damage was done to several doorways.
Dep. A. Curtin is investigating.
Burglary Case #14-56005:
A woman in the 3500 block of Hunting Creek Road in Huntingtown advised
DFC P. Aurich that she heard a noise in the downstairs portion of her home on
October 4 at 5:50 p.m. When she went
down to investigate, she heard a door close and saw some of her cabinet doors
were open. Nothing appears to have been
taken. The investigation is continuing.
Attempted Burglary Case #14-56119:
The victim of a home in the 1500 block of Overlook Drive in St. Leonard
advised DFC J. Bell that between October 4 and 5 it appeared that someone tried
to gain entry to the home by damaging a window screen and a door. Nothing was taken and it does not appear that
entry to the home was made. The
investigation continues.
CDS Violation Case #14-56077:
On October 4 at 11:43 p.m. while on routine patrol, DFC Y. Bortchevsky
observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Md. Rt. 4 near Thomas Gantt Road in
Huntingtown. The vehicle crossed the
shoulder line then drifted into the merge lane just past Huntingtown High
School. Bortchevsky conducted a traffic
stop near Scarlett Drive and contacted the driver, identified as Gary Michael
Hendrick, 55, of Suitland. After
administering field sobriety tests, Hendrick was found to be driving while
impaired. Hendrick also was in
possession of a suspected schedule IV drug.
Hendrick was charged with DWI by drugs and/or alcohol, reckless driving,
negligent driving, and possession of Zolpidem Tartrate.

Theft Case #14-56126:
Two bicycles, a
turquoise colored ladies Huffy cruiser and a white Pacific girls chromium
mountain bike were stolen from the yard of a home on Overlook Drive in St.
Leonard overnight between October 4 and 5.
DFC J. Bell is investigating.
Burglary Case #14-56194:
A yellow
Polaris Generator worth $2,000 was stolen from inside a garage that was
burglarized between October 3 and 5.
Dep. L. Kelly is investigating the offense that occurred at a home in
the 1400 block of Flag Harbor Boulevard in St. Leonard.

CALVERT COUNTY CRIME
SOLVERS’ CASE OF THE WEEK
Calvert County Crime Solvers and the Calvert County
Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person(s)
responsible for theft and damage to six vehicles parked outside a business on
Investment Court in Owings on September 23 between 3:30 and 4:30 in the
morning. The suspect(s) broke windows
and door handles to gain access to the inside of the vehicles to steal radios,
batteries, cables and instrument clusters.
The total amount of damage and theft is $1,850.
