PRESS RELEASES FOR JULY 16TH, 2014

During the week of July 7 through July 13 deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,305 calls for service throughout the community. 
Citizens with information on the following crimes or any criminal activity in Calvert County who wish to report it anonymously can now access the Calvert County Crime Solvers link through the Sheriff’s Office website.  
Go to http://www.co.cal.md.us/residents/safety/law/sheriff/ and click on the Crime Solvers link to leave an anonymous tip on-line.  Information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect could result in a $1,000 reward.
Attempted Burglary Case #14-38316:
A homeowner in the 3400 block of Hunting Creek Road in Huntingtown reported to Dep. A. Curtin that a neighbor had observed a vehicle parked in front of the homeowner’s shed and then the home’s alarm system sounded and the car drove off.  Nothing appears to have been stolen. The incident occurred on July 8 around midnight. The investigation is continuing.

Theft from Vehicle Case #14-38466:
Someone stole a Bose speaker from inside a vehicle parked near the Rod ‘N Reel Restaurant on Mears Avenue in Chesapeake Beach on July 8 sometime between 1:15 p.m. and 4:40 p.m.  The victim advised that her vehicle locks automatically.  There was no evidence of anyone damaging the vehicle to get inside.  DFC R. Cress is investigating.

Theft from Vehicle Case #14-38694:

A victim advised DFC P. Mosely that on July 9 at 10:30 p.m. he observed someone inside his car which was parked in the 300 block of Rivers Reach Road in Prince Frederick.  He ran toward his vehicle and the suspect fled.  The victim noticed that his driver’s license and a pair of Adidas tennis shoes had been stolen.

Concealed Deadly Weapon Case #14-38715:

On July 10 at 1:50 a.m. Dep. J. Buck observed a vehicle on the shoulder of south bound Md. Rt. 4 near Pardoe Road in Lusby.  While making contact with the driver, identified as Nelson Kyle Eaton, 25 of Jessup, Buck detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle.  Eaton was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; a metal grinder and glass jar.  A search of the vehicle also revealed a black metal collapsible baton.  Eaton was also charged with concealing a dangerous weapon.

Destruction of Property Case #14-38839:

Dep. J. Buck is investigating damaged property that occurred outside a home in the 1800 block of Parkers Creek Road in Port Republic on July 10 between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  The victim reported that someone had destroyed his mailbox and had thrown eggs at his vehicle.

Theft Case #14-39010:

Dep. N. Gilmore responded to the Prince Frederick Wal-Mart on July 11 at 1:40 p.m. for the report of a theft.  Gilmore was advised that the suspect had fled the store with stolen items and had run behind the Wendy’s Restaurant into the woods.  Deputies located the suspect, out of breath, coming out of the woods.  They stopped him and identified him as John William Mattia, 24 of Lusby.  Mattia was charged with theft less than $1,000 and resisting arrest.

Disorderly Case #14-39110:

Cpl. B. Gray responded to the Super 8 Motel in Prince Frederick on July 12 at 1:05 a.m. for the report of a disorderly female.  Cpl. Gray found Andrea Sue Anderson, 45 of no fixed address, in one of the rooms.  Anderson appeared to be intoxicated.  She was cursing and yelling.  Anderson was advised to stop yelling and that she needed to leave the premises.  Anderson continued to curse and scream.  She was told that she was under arrest and she resisted being handcuffed.  She was subdued and taken into custody.  She was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order.

CDS Violation Case #14-39133:

On July 12 at 3:00 a.m. a complainant called in a suspicious vehicle in the area of Lowery Road and Bowie Shop Road in Huntingtown.  The caller advised that the vehicle’s occupants had stopped her and then stated, oh, you’re not the person we’re looking for.  The subject vehicle was located on Md. Rt. 4 near Hoile Lane and Dep. A. Curtin conducted a traffic stop.  Two of the three occupants were arrested for drug violations.  Multiple tools commonly associated in burglaries were in plain view inside the vehicle.  Davon Antwone Jones, 23 of Dunkirk, was charged with possession of Heroin and a metal grinder.  Richard Lee Foster, Jr., 29 of Owings, was charged with possession of Suboxone and a metal grinder.

Theft from Vehicle Case #14-39406:

Someone entered a vehicle parked near Flag Ponds Park in Lusby on July 13 between 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and removed a purse.  The purse was located in the nearby woods but a cell phone and credit cards had been taken.  The purse had been in the trunk of the vehicle.  It is unknown how the trunk was entered.  Dep. S. Moran is investigating.
