On October 26th, 2017 Frank and
Debbie Borelli presented a check for $1,285.20 to Sheriff Mike Evans. The check is a donation to be used for the
Calvert County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
The money was raised by Patriotic Jeeps during the Third Annual Tiki
Trek & Jeep Show event, which was held in Solomons, Maryland, on September
23, 2017. Sheriff Evans is very grateful
for the donation and said, “This money will help us to ensure our extraordinary
K-9 efforts in Calvert County are continued.”

TWO SUBJECTS ARRESTED FOR WALKING OUT ON RESTAURANT BILLS
The two women in this case have
been identified and arrested. Jane Ellen
Dern, of Prince Frederick, was arrested on October 28th. Teresa Lynn Maples, of Compton Maryland, was
arrested on October 29th.
Both of them have been charged with Theft Under $1,000. Charges are still pending in surrounding
jurisdictions. Sheriff Mike Evans would
like to thank the public for helping to identify these two individuals.

Theft 17-55176:
On
October 19, 2017 Deputy Spalding responded to Seminole Rd. Lusby, for a theft
complaint. The victim stated someone
entered their unlocked vehicle and stole a black Jansport backpack that
contained keys and miscellaneous books and binders. Total value is $343.
SEARCH & SEIZURE WARRANT PRODUCES NUMEROUS DRUG SEIZURES
During the month of October, members of the Calvert County
Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit and the Special Operations Team executed
a Search and Seizure warrant at 8929 Erie Avenue, North Beach, Maryland. Emergency Medical Services personnel and
Sheriff’s Office Deputies had responded to this residence several times in the
recent past for opiate overdoses. During
the execution of the search warrant numerous subjects
were encountered inside and outside of the residence. Several of them were detained as part of the
search warrant. Michael Brodie and Cara
Simms were arrested on scene and charged with multiple CDS violations to
include PWID of heroin, prescription pills, crack-cocaine, and powdered
cocaine. Items seized during the search
warrant included:
- 8.1 grams of crack-cocaine
- 8.2 grams of powdered cocaine
- Several crushed Xanax pills
- 8.1 grams of heroin
- 31 Amphetamine pills
- 91 Alprazolam pills
- 7 Adderall pills
- 122 Oxycodone pills of varying dosage

During the week of October 16 – October 22, deputies
of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1, 380 calls for service

Theft 17-54643:
On October 16, 2017 Deputy
J. Ward responded to Derby Ct. Prince Frederick, for a theft complaint. The victim stated they had a package stolen
that was delivered on September 26, 2017.
The package had two (2) battery operated glittered white manzanita tree
centerpieces. Total value is $70.
Theft 17-54621:
On October 16, 2017 Dfc.
R. Weems responded to San Jose Ln. Lusby, for a theft complaint. The victim advised someone stole a Clarion
AM/FM CD player/radio from their boat that was parked in their driveway. The theft occurred between July 4th
and October 16th. Total value

October 19th they heard a loud bang and noticed a picture on the

ARRESTS:
On October 18, 2017 Dfc.
Holt responded to Southern Maryland Blvd, Dunkirk, for a trespasser. Dfc. Holt located Joseph Gear (45) of West Virginia inside a residence. Mr. Gear was issued a no trespassing warning
back in September. Mr. Gear was placed
under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.
On October 22, 2017
several Deputies responded to Buckets Sports Bar located on Rousby Hall Rd.
Lusby, for a reported fight. Dfc.
Ostazeski arrived and located a large crowd in the parking lot. Dfc. Ostazeski was investigating when a
suspect struck a victim in the side of the head. Dfc. Ostazeski was then assaulted by another
suspect. During the investigation there
were several people being disorderly. Mark Baltimore (51 ) of Marbury, MD was arrested and charged
with Disorderly conduct and failing to obey a reasonable and lawful order of a
law enforcement officer. Michael Young (32) of Temple Hills, MD was arrested and charged with Disorderly
conduct. Corey Harrod (31 ) of Lusby, MD was arrested and charged with 2
counts of Assault 2nd degree, 2 counts of fail to obey reasonable
and lawful order of a law enforcement officer, 2 counts of Obstructing and
Hindering, Resist/interfere with arrest and Disorderly conduct.

2017 SHERIFF'S OFFICE NO SHAVE NOVEMBER
In an effort to raise money for the
Detention Center’s Jailhouse Rockers Relay for Life team, Sheriff Mike Evans
and the Calvert County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 109 are working together
during “No Shave November.” Sheriff
Evans has advised personnel he would
relax the agency grooming standards from November 1st through
November 30th. In exchange
for the standards being relaxed personnel wishing to participate will pay a
$50.00 donation. Things may be looking a
little “scruffy” around the office during the next month for those who have
decided to give their razors a much needed rest.

2017 SHERIFF'S OFFICE WARRANT SWEEP
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office
(CCSO) conducted its Annual Warrant Initiative from October 9th-12th. During this Initiative, the CCSO was assisted
by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office,
the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office, the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s
Office, the Maryland State Police, the Calvert County Detention Center, the
Calvert County Control Center and the Calvert County States Attorney’s
Office.
The 2017 warrant Initiative was
extremely successful. All of the
Deputies, Troopers and Officers who participated in this week long initiative
did an outstanding job. The professionalism
displayed by everyone involved was second to none. The hard work, patience and dedication
displayed by these men and women resulted in no “use of force” situations. The
team work of this group of fine Law Enforcement professionals resulted in the

CALVERT SAFETY FOR STUDENTS UPDATE
The Calvert
County Automated Speed Enforcement Unit has moved the speed enforcement camera
from Mt. Harmony Road to Southern Connector Boulevard. This camera is in operation near the entrance
to Mill Creek Middle School. The other
cameras currently remain on Boyds Turn Road at Windy Hill Middle School and
Ball Road at Mutual Elementary School.
In the near future a camera will be placed in operation in front of
Calvert Country School on Dares Beach Road.
- Cameras are active throughout the year, Monday through Friday, from 6
a.m. to 8 p.m. This does not alter
any posted speed reduction times.
- Citations are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, and only
if the speed was 12 mph or more over the posted speed limit. The camera will adjust for the reduced
speed times.
- A school zone speed camera violation is a $40 fine with no points.

DEPUTY HELPS LOCATE CITIZEN FROM SILVER ALERT
At
approximately 7:22 a.m. on October 16th, 2017 the Calvert Control
Center dispatched a Silver Alert lookout in reference to a missing 69-year-old
man; Young Shik Han. Mr. Han was
reported missing after he walked off from a Montgomery County park at
approximately 5 p.m. the night before. The
Calvert Control Center advised that Han was believed to be operating a red
Honda Pilot with Maryland registration.
At approximately 7:38 a.m. Lt. Fridman of the Calvert County Sheriff's
Office observed a dark red Honda Pilot traveling northbound on Maryland Route 4
in the area of Cox Road. The driver
appeared to be an elderly male matching the description of Mr. Han. Lt. Fridman stopped the vehicle after it was
determined the registration matched that of the missing person. Lt. Fridman made contact with Mr. Han and
determined him to be in good condition. Lt.
Fridman subsequently transported Han to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and
reunited with his family.

theft. The victim stated sometime
between October 11th at 8:30pm and October 12th at 7:30am
their handicap placard was removed from the vehicle at their residence off of
Bayview Hills, Chesapeake Beach. The value of the stolen item is $50.

On October 14, 2017 Deputy
Spalding responded to Robin Court, Lusby for the report of a theft from
vehicle. The victim stated sometime between October 13th at 7:00pm
and October 14th at 2:30pm an unknown suspect(s) entered their
unlocked vehicles stealing an iPhone 6, loose change, and Game of Thorne
collector beers. The value of the stolen items is $641.

Migliaccio responded to Chaney Road, Dunkirk for the report of a theft. The
victim stated that sometime between October 13th at 9:00pm and
October 14th at 8:00am an unknown suspect(s) stole their Craftsman
pressure washer from the driveway. The value of the stolen item is $100.

property. The victim stated sometime between October 7th at 5:00pm

Beisel responded to Plum Point Elementary for the report of damaged property.
Upon arrival, the victim stated that sometime between October 13th
at 10:30pm and October 15th at 8:00am an unknown suspect(s) had
damaged several items on school grounds including a ‘NO PARKING’ sign, bent an
aluminum sign, knocked down a tree, and damaged a Little Tikes kitchen play
set. The estimated damaged property is $175.
Tampering 17-53609:
On October 10, 2017 Deputy
Sampson responded to Clay Hammond Road, Prince Frederick for the report of
tampering with a motor vehicle. The victim stated sometime between October 9th
at 9:00pm and October 10th at 6:45am an unknown suspect(s) entered
their unlocked vehicle, and went through the items inside. It was determined
that there were no items stolen from inside the vehicle.
ARRESTS:
On October 11, 2017 Deputy
R. Shrawder conducted a traffic stop at N Solomons Island Rd and Hospital Road,
Prince Frederick for expired registration plates. Deputy R. Shrawder made
contact with the driver later identified as Joshua Beall (43) of Huntingtown who was operating the vehicle with
expired registration plates. It was determined Beall did not have a valid
driver’s license, and then was placed under arrest. A K9 scan was conducted of
the vehicle resulting in a positive alert. The search revealed paraphernalia
within the vehicle. Beall was transported to the Calvert County Detention
Center and charged with CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia and Driving motor
vehicle on highway without required license and authorization.

Office responded to 1, 246 calls for service throughout the community.
Damaged Property St. Leonard / Port Republic
On October 6, 2017 Deputy
R. Shrawder and Dfc. Hardesty responded to multiple damaged property calls in
the Saint Leonard and Port Republic area. Dfc. Hardesty responded to Forest Lane,
Port Republic where he determined multiple residences had been spray painted with
profanity. Deputy Shrawder responded to
Nicole Drive, St. Leonard for multiple residences having similar damage to
their mailboxes. After deputies conducted a canvass of the area, it was
discovered more residences in the area had their mailboxes damaged as
well. The other streets effected include
Hance Road, Williams Wharf Road, Parkers Creek Road, Planters Wharf Road, Flag
Harbor Blvd, Valley Drive and Eucalyptus Drive.
Burglary: 17-52282
On October 3, 2017 Dfc.
Ostazeski responded to Hickock Trail, Lusby for the report of a burglary. Upon
arrival, the victim stated the suspect(s) had entered the residence through the
master bedroom window. It was discovered that once the suspect(s) entered the
residence, they stole a large amount of loose change, US currency, and
prescription medicine. The estimated value of the stolen property is $110.
Burglary: 17-52623
On October 5, 2017 Cpl.
Denton responded to Stamper Court, Prince Frederick for the report of a
burglary. The victim stated they heard a window screen break and then observed two
males leaving the residence in an unidentified vehicle. It was determined the
unknown suspects used a tool to pry the screen off of the window, but did not
obtain any items from the residence prior to leaving the scene. The estimated
damage is $20.

On October 3, 2017 Dfc.
Wood responded to McIntosh Dr., Dunkirk for the report of a theft from vehicle.
Upon arrival, the victim stated sometime between 12:30am and 8:30am on October
3rd an unknown suspect(s) entered their vehicle stealing the
victim’s wallet, US passport, and loose change from the center console. The
value of the stolen items is $85.

On October 3, 2017 Dfc.

Upon arrival, the victim stated sometime between October 2nd at
5:00pm and October 3rd at 7:30am an unknown suspect(s) entered their

Thefts from Vehicles
On October 3, 2017 Dfc.
Weems responded to Susan Lane, Lusby for multiple reports of thefts from
vehicles. It was determined sometime between October 2nd at 6:30pm
and October 3rd at 7:00am an unknown suspect(s) entered multiple
vehicles in the victims’ driveways and stole items from within the vehicles.
The items stolen included US currency, loose change, TI 83 calculator, debit
cards, and a book bag.
Theft from Vehicles
On October 3, 2017 Dfc.
Weems responded to Gunsmoke Trail, Lusby for the report of theft from vehicles.
Upon arrival the victims stated sometime between October 2nd at
5:00pm and October 3rd at 9:00am an unknown suspect(s) entered
multiple unlocked vehicles. The items removed from the vehicles included an
Ipod Touch, a diaper bag containing debt cards, and US currency.

On October 7, 2017 Dfc.
Locke responded to Chaney Road, Dunkirk for the report of a theft. Upon
arrival, the victim stated that sometime between October 5th at
2:00pm and October 7th at 6:20pm someone stole their DynaHurst P31
930A Heavy Duty Starting Battery. The value of the stolen property is $150.

On October 4, 2017 Deputy
Sampson responded to Sixes Road, Prince Frederick for the report of damaged
property. The victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) had keyed their vehicle.
The estimated damage is $500.

On October 6, 2017 Deputy
R. Shrawder responded to Schooner Drive, Lusby for the report of damaged
property. The victim stated sometime between October 5th at 11:00pm
and October 6th 1:00pm an unknown subject(s) smashed their
windshield with a brick. The estimated damaged property is $200.

On October 6, 2017 Dfc. D.
Naughton responded to Western Circle, Lusby for the report of damaged property.
Upon arrival, the victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) had moved their
garden tools from the front porch of the residence to the car port area and
there was damage to the screen of their front door. The estimated value of the
damage is $100.
ARRESTS:
On October 2, 2017 Dfc.
Wood responded to the 7-11 located in Sunderland for the report of check
welfare. Upon arrival, Dfc. Wood made contact with a male subject later
identified as Bryan Quade (35) of North Carolina, who appeared to be
under the influence of narcotics. Mr. Quade informed Dfc. Wood he had taken a
narcotic, a search of Mr. Quade was conducted resulting in paraphernalia being
located. Mr. Quade was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and
charged with CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia and CDS: Possession-not marijuana
(heroin).
On October 8, 2017 Dfc.
Livingston was made aware of a disorderly subject at Abner’s Crab House near
the bar. Dfc. Livingston observed the disorderly male identified as Tony Reynolds (46) of Chesapeake Beach was intoxicated and had already been in an
altercation with another customer inside the bar. Mr. Reynolds was asked
several times to leave the establishment and refused to leave. Mr. Reynolds was
placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert Detention Center where he
was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Intoxicated Public Disturbance, Fail Obey
Reasonable/Lawful order of Law Enforcement Officer, and Resist/Interfere with
Arrest.
SHERIFF'S OFFICE IS SEEKING THE PUBLIC'S ASSISTANCE
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s
assistance in identifying the person or person responsible for destruction of
property to residential areas.
On October 6, 2017, deputies with the Calvert County Sheriff’s
Office were dispatched to numerous locations on Nicole Drive, off William’s
Wharf Rd in St Leonard, Maryland and numerous locations on Hance Rd and Forest
Lane, off Broomes Island Rd Port Republic, Maryland for destruction of property
calls. Residents reported mailboxes were broken off their support posts.
Mailboxes, homes and vehicles were spray-painted. In some cases, vulgar
language and racial comments were spray-painted on buildings and stop signs.

PRESS RELEASE FOR GOLF CART ACCIDENT
On 10/7/2017 at approximately 9:30 p.m. members of the
Calvert County Sheriff's Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team
were dispatched to the intersection of Maryland Route 4 and Lower Marlboro Road
for a report of a pedestrian struck. Patrol
units arrived with fire department personnel and confirmed that an adult male
was struck by several motor vehicles on northbound Maryland Route 4.
A preliminary investigation revealed that John Lee Schneider (62, of Huntingtown, MD) was operating his golf cart on the roadway and entered the intersection of MD Route 4 and Lower Marlboro Road in an attempt to proceed northbound on Maryland Route 4. Schneider failed to negotiate the turn and struck the curb that provides for a merge lane for traffic entering northbound Maryland Route 4. During the collision with the curb Schneider was ejected from the golf cart onto the roadway. While laying on the roadway surface Schneider was struck by three vehicles traveling northbound on Maryland Route 4 while, with two striking vehicles remaining on location. The third vehicle left the scene, but was subsequently located by a patrol deputy in a nearby shopping center. Drivers of all vehicles are cooperating with the investigation.
Schneider was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS personnel. Schneider was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be performed. All involved vehicles were seized pending additional investigation.

It appears that lighting conditions in the area where the
collision occurred, the fact that Schneider was wearing dark clothing and was

Theft 17-51454: On
September 28, 2017 Deputy Williamson responded to Jewell Road, Dunkirk for the
report of a theft. The victim stated that sometime between September 27th
at 6:20pm and September 28th at 2:55am an unknown male subject
entered the vehicle and stole their purse. The value of the stolen property is
$200.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE INCIDENT BRIEFINGS - OCTOBER 4TH, 2017
During the week of September 25 – October 1, deputies of the Calvert County
Sheriff’s Office responded to 1, 161 calls for service throughout the
community.
Theft 17-51454:
On September 28, 2017
Deputy Williamson responded to Jewell Road, Dunkirk for the report of a theft.
The victim stated that sometime between September 27th at 6:20pm and
September 28th at 2:55am an unknown male subject entered the vehicle
and stole their purse. The value of the stolen property is $200.
Theft 17-51460:
On September 28, 2017
Deputy Burggraff responded to Schooner Drive, Lusby for the report of a theft.
Upon arrival, the victim stated that they observed that the interior light of
their vehicle was on and an unknown male subject standing in the street. The
subject had entered the unlocked vehicle, but it was discovered nothing had
been taken from the vehicle.
Theft 17-51702:
On September 30, 2017
Deputy Callison responded to Stevens Road, Owings for the report of a theft.
The victim stated that sometime on September 27th three packages had
been taken from the residence that included a knife, two bottles of Di Electric
Grease, and two spark plug testers. The value of the stolen items is $155.
ARRESTS:
On September 25, 2017
Deputy Moran responded to the Calvert County Detention Center for the report of
an inmate with CDS. The complainant advised Deputy Moran that inmate, later
identified as Brittany Cannon (28)
of Prince Frederick had the CDS on her. Once Cannon was confronted about the
CDS, she removed all CDS from her possession. Cannon was charged with CDS:
Possession-not marijuana (Suboxone), Possession or Receive CDS while Confined,
and Possession Contraband in a place of Confinement.
On September 26, 2017
Deputy R. Evans was on patrol in the area of the Greene Turtle parking lot in
Prince Frederick, when he observed a subject that was wanted through the
Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Evans made contact with the subject
identified as Lionel Mackall (35) of Huntingtown where he was placed
under arrest for his warrant. A search of Mr. Mackall revealed he had narcotics
and paraphernalia on him. He was transported to the Calvert County Detention
Center and charged with CDS: Possession of paraphernalia and CDS:
Possession-not marijuana (crack cocaine).
On September 29, 2017
Deputy Kreps responded to the area of Kent Road and N Solomons Island Road for
the report of a subject walking in the roadway. Upon arrival, Deputy Kreps made
contact with the male subject identified as Ryan Bussard (30) of
Edgewater. It was determined that Mr. Bussard was intoxicated and had
damaged another residence mailbox. He was placed under arrest and charged with
Destruction of Property.
