Theft Case #17-8358: On February 16, 2017, Deputy T. Rzepkowski was dispatched to Alexander Court, in Port Republic, to investigate a theft from vehicle.  He met with the victim who stated at 9:00am they observed the front passenger window busted out. A black and tan Coach purse, they had placed under the seat at 11:00pm the evening before, was now missing.  Also stolen are:  a brown leather Coach Wallet, MD Driver’s License, Naval Base ID card, credit cards and money.

PRESS RELEASES FOR FEBRUARY 27TH, 2017

During the week of February 21 through February 26 deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,257 calls for service throughout the community. 

CDS Violation Case #17-9680: On February 23, 2017, Dfc. D. Naughton initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Solomon’s Island Road/Patuxent Point Parkway, in Solomon’s, that he observed operating with an obstructed windshield.   Immediately upon contact with the driver, Nicholas Bohrer, 26, and passenger, Khari Blackwell, 25, both from Lexington Park, he detected a strong odor of raw marijuana emitting from the interior.  Dfc. J. Morgan, who also arrived on the scene to assist, located a clear plastic baggie and cut straw, containing a white powdery residue (cocaine).   Bohrer and Blackwell both received a DC-45 Criminal Citation for possession of CDS Paraphernalia (cut straw) and were released on the scene.

CDS Violation Case #17-9635: On February 22, 2017, at approximately 7:15pm, Dfc. D. Naughton conducted a traffic stop, at the intersection of Chisholm/Dalton Trail, in Lusby, on a vehicle operating with inadequate lighting of their rear registration plate.  When he made contact with the driver, Marisa Ramos, 23, of Lusby, he requested a K9 to assist with the stop due to her behavior.  Cpl. R. Wilson and Dfc. D. Denton arrived on the scene with their K9 partner, who alerted positive for CDS. A search of the vehicle revealed a black bag containing K2 Spice sitting under the driver seat and a small round pill (Oxycodone) was located inside a purse. Ramos admitted both belonged to her. She was arrested for Possession of a Dangerous Nonnarcotic Drug (K2 Spice), Possession of an Opiate Without a Prescription (Oxycontin) and Possession of Paraphernalia (black bag).

CDS Violation Case #17-9366: On February 21, 2017, Deputy T. Mohler witnessed a female driver texting on her cell phone, causing her vehicle to drift into Deputy Mohler’s lane of travel.  He pulled into the shoulder to avoid a collision and then was able to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Solomon’s Island Road/German Chapel Road, in Prince Frederick.  The driver, Heather Embrey, 32, of Lusby, advised she did not have her license with her and initially gave a false name.  At this time Cpl. R. Wilson, Dfc. M. Trigg and their K9 partner arrived on the scene to assist.  A K9 sniff of the vehicle indicated a positive alert for CDS.  A search of the vehicle revealed a black zippered bag (containing a syringe, cut straw, silver spoon and baggie) all with a small amount of white powdery substance and a glass "Crack Pipe" was also found in her purse.   Embrey was arrested for CDS Administer Equipment Possession/Distribute (syringe), Possession of Paraphernalia (zippered bag and cut straw) and Fraud/Presume Identity to Avoid Prosecution.

Motor Vehicle Theft Case #17-9820: On February 23, 2017, Deputy N. Barger was dispatched to Discount Liquors, located at N.  Solomon’s Island Road, in Huntingtown, for the report of a stolen vehicle.  He made contact with the victim who advised he parked his truck outside of the liquor store and intended to make a quick trip inside, leaving his truck unlocked with the keys in the ignition.  Once he exited the store he saw his truck being driven south on Hope Lane.  A lookout was broadcast and his truck was found abandoned along the wood line on Wilson Road, in Huntingtown.  There were multiple damages done to the vehicle:  the roof ladder was damaged, causing the bed of the truck to shift, damaging the bed cover and one of the two (2) back doors was broken off.  Stolen from the truck were:  a rear light, a red and black Coleman 9000 Generator (with a cold-cranking action), a black leather wallet (containing a MD Driver’s License, Credit Cards and money) and multiple prescription medications.  This case is suspended until further information is developed.

Theft Case #17-9611: On February 22, 2017, Dfc. R. Kreps was called to Claggett Road, in Sunderland, for the report of a theft.  Upon arrival the victim advised his 1998 Old Town Canoe was taken from his home sometime between 5:15am - 3:00pm that day.  He described it as red in color and 16’ 9” in length.

Theft Case #17-9591: On February 22, 2017, Dfc. R. Kreps was dispatched to St. Andrews Drive, in Chesapeake Beach, for the report of a theft.  Upon arrival the victim explained he had been working on a car in his driveway, using numerous tools which he had outside with him.  He had a family emergency and needed to leave suddenly around 8:00pm; therefore, did not have time to put his tools away.   When he returned he discovered the following tools had been stolen:  a 35 gallon Craftsman Air Compressor (with the initials C.D. written on it), a 18v DeWalt Drill Combo set (a Drill and Impact Driver, two (2) batteries and a charger), a red four drawer Craftsman tool box, various hand tools (ratchets, wrenches, sockets) and multiple air tools (a 3/8” impact gun, a 1/2” impact gun and an air grinder).

During the week of February 13 through February 20 deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,465 calls for service throughout the community. 

Burglary Case #17-8382: On February 16, 2017, Dfc. A. Ostazeski was dispatched to Catalina Drive, in Lusby, for a   report of damaged property.   While making contact with the complainant, he observed the front door of the unoccupied home forced open, the doorknob ripped off and the lock box broken and on the ground.  Upon checking the inside of the residence, he determined nothing else was broken, damaged or missing.  The complainant was not aware of when this incident may have taken place.

CDS Violation Case #17-8888: On February 18, 2017, Dfc. A. Curtin observed a vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner heading southbound on Rt. 4, in the area of Ball Road, in St. Leonard.  He initiated a traffic stop at MD Rt. 4/Calvert Cliffs Parkway and made contact with the driver, Charles Cochran, 33, of Front Royal, Virginia.  Dfc. S. Moran and his K-9 partner arrived on the scene to assist, resulting in a positive alert.  Inside the vehicle Dfc. Curtin located an unlabeled prescription bottle containing seventeen (17) pills.  He also located a white balloon filled with an unknown white powder under the back seat.  Cochran was charged with CDS Possession of a Synthetic Narcotic (alprazolam) and transported to the Detention Center for processing.  The powder was sent to the Maryland Crime Lab to be analyzed.

CDS Violation Case #17-8703: On February 17, 2017, Deputy R. Spalding responded to the Detention Center, in Barstow, for the report of a CDS violation by an inmate.  He was advised that Correctional Officer R. Montgomery discovered a pill taped to Todd Persell, 33, of Tracys Landing, MD when he arrived to serve his weekend sentence.  He was charged with CDS Possession of a Synthetic Narcotic (Percocet) and Possession of Contraband in a Place of Confinement.

CDS Violation Case #17-8686: On February 17, 2017, Dfc. D. Naughton observed a vehicle travelling in the Chesapeake Beach area with two (2) broken headlamps.  He conducted a traffic stop in the area of Rt. 261 at Brownies Beach.  When he made contact with the driver, Justin Wood, 27, of Mechanicsville, MD, he observed a hypodermic syringe in the driver side door pocket.  Dfc. Naughton stepped away to make note of his registration plate and noticed the syringe was no longer in the pocket when returning to speak with Wood.  He was arrested for Possession of CDS: Opiate Without a Prescription (Tramadol) and Possession of Paraphernalia (hypodermic syringe).

Destruction of Property Case #17-8916: On February 19, 2017, Deputy V. O’Donnell responded to Tomahawk Trail, in Lusby, for a report of damaged property.  He made contact with the victim who explained they were awoken by the sound of loud voices outside their home; and upon investigating, discovered their house had been ‘egged’.  No permanent damage was done and no suspects at this time.

Destruction of Property Case #17-8859: On February 18, 2017, Dfc. A. Curtin responded to Ross Road, in St. Leonard, for the report of damaged property.  He made contact with the victim who stated someone had set off a firecracker in his mailbox, completing blowing out the front and back of the mailbox.  It appears the damage was done by some type of mortar firework.

Destruction of Property Case #17-8572: On February 17, 2017, Dfc. P. Aurich was dispatched to Jones Road, in Dunkirk, for the report that someone had vandalized a home with eggs.  The incident took place during the overnight hours of 10:00pm – 6:00am. There are no suspects at this time.

Destruction of Property Case #17-8522: On February 17, 2017, at approximately 10:45pm, Deputy K. Williamson was on patrol in the Dunkirk area and witnessed a subject wearing a black jacket and ski mask, swinging an object and striking a vehicle parked in the Burger King parking lot.  He then observed the subject jump into a waiting vehicle occupied by one subject.  Dfc. G. Gott arrived on the scene and assisted Deputy Williamson when making contact with the occupants.  He determined Shantell Washington, 28, of Upper Marlboro, MD, a former Burger King employee, was the person responsible for striking the vehicle with a wooden baseball bat found in the vehicle.  Also discovered on the floor was a 5” Defender Xtreme knife.  Both the wooden bat and knife were seized as evidence.  Washington was charged with Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000.00, Malicious Destruction of Property under $1,000.00 and issued a trespass warning to stay away from the Dunkirk Burger King.  The other (juvenile) occupant was also charged and released to their parents.

Theft Case #17-8333: On February 16, 2017, Dfc. A. Ostazeski was called to Mutual Court, in Port Republic, for a report of theft from vehicle.  The victim explained a window was broken out of a vehicle  sometime overnight and a purse was stolen.  The purse and its’ contents were located a short distance from the vehicle but nothing appeared to be missing. 

Theft Case #17-8248: On February 15, 2017, Dfc. S. Rediker responded to the Prince Frederick Walmart for a shoplifting complaint.  The shoplifter, later identified as Justin Holt, 22, of Owings, was observed by security personnel taking two (2) Xbox controllers and placing them in his pocket and clothing.  He was observed at the check-out register failing to pay for the controllers hidden on his person.  Holt was placed into custody and charged with Theft Less Than $100.00.

Burglary Case #17-6951: On February 8, 2017, at approximately 5:00pm, Deputy C. Callison was dispatched to Towanda Trail, in Lusby, for the report of a burglary.  He met with the victim who stated someone had broken into their house and stole a black HP laptop that was sitting on their kitchen counter.   Over the past two (2) days they had come home to find the front door unlocked and that today the laptop was missing.  They searched the rest of the house and found that the basement door was also unlocked.  This case is suspended pending further information.

During the week of February 6 through February 12 deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,312 calls for service throughout the community.  

Burglary Case #17-7654: On February 12, 2017, Dfc. S. Rediker responded to St. Leonard Road, in St. Leonard, for the report of a burglary.  The owner of the residence explained that a family member, later identified as Olivia Hefter, 23, with no fixed address, had asked if she could move in with them and they had told her she could not.  Later the next day, February 13th, the homeowner went into their guest bedroom and found Hefter on the floor.  She had broken into the residence in the middle of the night by damaging the basement door. She was transported to the Detention Center and charged with 3rd and 4th Degree Burglary and Trespassing on Private Property.

Burglary Case #17-6951: On February 8, 2017, at approximately 5:00pm, Deputy C. CDS Violation Case #17-7488: On February 11, 2017, at approximately 12:00pm, Dfc. G. Gott observed a vehicle traveling on Market Square Drive, in Prince Frederick, with a broken brake light.  He conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Joseph Thompson, III, 52, of Hughesville, MD.  Dfc. C. Childress and his K9 partner, Flip, arrived to assist with the stop.  K9 Flip detected a positive alert for contraband.  During a search of Thompson’s person, a plastic container was found in his right front pocket, containing sixteen (16) green pills (oxycodone).  He was not able to provide proof that he was prescribed the medication.  Joseph was placed under arrest for CDS: Possession of a Synthetic Narcotic (oxycodone) and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. He also received appropriate paperwork for his broken brake light.

Destruction of Property Case #17-7159: On February 9, 2017, Dfc. A. Curtin was dispatched to Oakcrest Drive, in St. Leonard, for the report of damaged property.  He met with the victim who explained he noticed his rear motion lights turn on, so had gone outside to investigate.  He discovered his truck had been spray painted with orange paint.  The investigation revealed the victim had prior verbal disagreements with a nearby neighbor and other witnesses were able to provide a description.  Dfc. Curtin then contacted Michael Turner, 57, of St. Leonard, who fit the description and who made statements incriminating his self.  He observed an opened can of orange spray paint near Turner, orange paint on his index finger and jeans.  He was arrested for Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000.00 and transported to the Detention Center for processing.

Damaged Property/Burglary Case #17-6921: On February 8, 2017, Dfc. D. Naughton was dispatched to Overlook Drive, in Lusby, for the report of damage to property.  After meeting with the complainant, he was advised a few weeks prior someone had broken into their home by kicking in the basement door.  At that time Deputies had recommended additional steps to secure the basement door but the suspect(s) were able to bypass the additional security measures taken. The case be suspended pending further suspect(s) information. 

Damaged Property Case #17-6462: On February 6, 2017, Dfc. A. Ostazeski responded to Foxwood Lane, a new home construction site located in Lusby, for a report of damaged property.  He made contact with the complainant who advised sometime between 2:00pm on February 4 and 6:30am on February 6, two (2) excavators were damaged.  Both excavators had their front windshields and control panels broken out from a large branch striking them.  During the investigation several pieces of fabric and fencing had been found in the nearby woods, which were used to construct a small fort. Dfc. Ostazeski also located an extra-large, black hooded sweatshirt and a children’s tie-die shirt with "NJ" written on the tag.  If anyone has any information pertaining to this crime, please contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Disorderly Conduct Case #17-6814: On February 7, 2017, Dfc. R. Weems and Dfc. J. Hardesty were dispatched to Pinecrest Court, in Lusby, for the report of disorderly subjects in the area.  Upon arrival they located a male and female standing in Pinecrest Court and several residents outside looking to see what was going on.  A third person joined the other two and began yelling while walking away.  They were asked to stop the disorderly behavior, as their actions continued to draw attention of the neighbors. The subjects identified as Kirsten Townsend, 18, Tyree Johnson, 20, and Joshua Parker, 27, of Lusby, were all charged with Disorderly Conduct, Failing to Obey a Reasonable Lawful Order and Interfering with an arrest.   Additionally, Parker and Johnson were charged with possession of marijuana on a civil citation.

INFANT METHADONE OVERDOSE UPDATE

***UPDATE - The 15 month old is home now.***

Infant Methadone Overdose update:

Additional Charges have been added to the Grandmother of the 15-month-old overdose victim.  Those charges are listed below.  The Grandmother has been identified as 55-year-old Judith Anne Badrian Tetreault, of Lusby.  She remains at the Calvert County Detention Center on a no bond status.

2.     Attempted Poisoning

3.     Assault 1^st Degree

4.     Neglect of a Minor

5.     Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance

  

FATAL ACCIDENT ON RT. 231 & STAFFORD ROAD - FEBRUARY 11TH, 2017

On February 11, 2017 at approximately 6:20pm deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.  The accident occurred on Hallowing Point Road in the area of Stafford Road.  The Preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian, identified as Brenda Lee Hill a 52-year-old female of Aquasco, Maryland, was walking on Stafford Road.  Ms. Hill entered the West Bound lane of Hallowing Point Road and was struck by a 1994 Dodge Dakota, operated by a 28-year-old male of Prince Frederick, Maryland.   The driver of the truck was not injured and remained at the scene of the accident.    

This accident remains under investigation by the Calvert County Crash Reconstruction Team.  There have been no charges filed at this time.  Anyone with any information regarding this accident should call Dfc. J.M. Haresty at 410-535-2800, or email at hardesje@co.cal.md.us.
