SHERIFF'S OFFICE INCIDENT BRIEFINGS - DECEMBER 28TH, 2017

During the week of December 18 – December 24, deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,179 calls for service throughout the community.

Burglary 17-66406: On December 22, 2017 Deputy Spalding responded to Anchor Lane, Lusby for the report of a burglary.  The victim stated sometime between December 15th at 8:00am ad December 22nd at 10:30am an unknown suspect(s) attempted to enter their residence through the front door and also a rear door to the garage. It appeared the unknown suspect(s) used a tool to attempt to pry the locks on the door however were unsuccessful. The estimated value of damaged property is $112.

Damaged Property 17-66385: On December 22, 2017 Dfc. Beisel responded to Pine Boulevard, Lusby for the report of damaged property. The victim stated sometime between 6:30am and 2:30pm on December 21st an unknown suspect(s) broke a double pane window in the rear of the residence. The estimated value of damaged property is $400.

Theft 17-65659: On December 18, 2017 Dfc. Beisel responded to Bayside Auto Group, Prince Frederick for the report of a theft. The victim stated sometime between December 1st at 8:00am and December 18th at 3:30pm an unknown suspect(s) stole a dealer registration plate. The value of stolen property is $160.

Theft 17-65794: On December 19, 2017 Dfc. Migliaccio responded to Daniels Gussie Way, Huntingtown for the report of a theft. The victim stated that their mail had been tampered with, and the envelope containing new registration stickers had been partially opened and the new stickers had been removed. The value of the stolen property is $50.

Theft 17-66153: On December 21, 2017 Deputy Williamson responded to West Mount Harmony Road, Owings for the report of a theft. The victim stated that sometime between December 19th at 3:00pm and December 20th at 9:30am an unknown suspect(s) stole their black Bri-Mar dump trailer. The value of the stolen property is $5,800.

Theft 17-66689: On December 24, 2017 Deputy Spalding responded to Six Gun Circle, Lusby for the report of a theft. The victim stated sometime between December 23rd at 3:00pm and December 24th at 8:30am an unknown suspect(s) stole their fourteen foot red canoe with black lettering on the side that says Explorer II and three wooden oars. The value of the stolen property is $880.

Arrests:

On December 18, 2017 Dfc. T. Buckler responded to the area of Dory Brooks Road and Dalrymple Road for a check welfare for a male subject who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel. Dfc. Buckler observed the vehicle matching the description from Emergency Communications with a male subject who appeared to be passed out inside, and approached the vehicle. After several attempts to wake the male subject later identified as Nicholas Schisler (37) of Lothian, he appeared to be under the effects of narcotics. Schisler was asked to step out of the vehicle so a search of him and the vehicle could be completed. The search resulted in paraphernalia and Schisler was placed under arrest. Schisler was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia.

On December 20, 2017 Dfc. Trigg was conducting a random commercial motor vehicle safety inspection in the parking lot of Lord Calvert Bowling, Huntingtown. While making contact with the driver later identified as Richard Stevens (40) of North Carolina, Dfc. Trigg observed a large hunting knife near the center of the vehicle. While speaking with Stevens there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. All occupants of the vehicle were asked to step out of the vehicle for a search to be conducted. The search revealed narcotics along with a loaded handgun, magazines, and ammunition. Stevens was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with Firearm Possession with Felony Conviction, Regulated Firearm: Illegal Possession, Illegal Possession Ammunition, Handgun in Vehicle, CDS: Possession Marijuana 10 Grams +. Another occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Jimmy Stone (26) of North Carolina was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with CDS: Possession Marijuana 10 Grams+.

On December 21, 2017 Dfc. Trigg responded to the Calvert County Health Department, Prince Frederick for the report of a check welfare for a female in a vehicle who appeared to be passed out. Other deputies on scene with the female who was later identified as Lauren Ragan (24) of Prince Frederick advised the female was awake and talking with them. A search of the vehicle and Ragan was completed and narcotics were located. Ragan was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where she was charges with CDS: Possession-not Marijuana (Oxycodone Hydrochloride).

SAFEWAY ROBBERY - DECEMBER 23RD, 2017

The victim stated sometime between 6:30am and 3:45pm on December 13th an unknown suspect(s) forced through the front door of the residence and stole their Smith and Wesson handgun and magazine. On December 13, 2017 Deputy Spalding responded to Clay Hammond Road, Prince Frederick for the report of a burglary. On December 14, 2017 Sergeant Basham responded to the Rod N Reel, Chesapeake Beach for the report of damaged property. The victim stated that an unknown suspect threw a fake potted plant against the wall in the men’s restroom. The estimated damaged property is $25.

On December 15, 2017 Deputy R. Shrawder responded to Matapeake Court, Saint Leonard for the report of damaged property. The victim stated sometime between December 14th at 10:00pm and December 15th at 9:00am an unknown suspect(s) drove through their yard leaving large tire marks. The estimated damaged property is $500.

On December 16, 2017 Deputy R. Shrawder responded to Big Sandy Run Road, Lusby for the report of damaged property. The victim stated sometime between December 15th at 10:00pm and December 16th at 1:30pm it appeared an unknown suspect(s) hit the spotlight of their residence with a BB gun. The estimated damaged property is $10.

Theft: 17-64442
On December 12, 2017 Dfc. Wood responded to Ward Road, Dunkirk for the report of a theft. The victim stated sometime between December 8th at 2:30pm and December 12th at 5:00am an unknown suspect(s) cut two locks off of a storage container and stole four rolls of copper wire and a Wacker Tamper Model B550-4S. The value of the stolen property is $4,600.

On December 13, 2017 Dfc. Beisel responded to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for the report of a theft from vehicle that occurred on 8th Street, Chesapeake Beach. The victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) entered their unlocked vehicle and stole their handicap parking placard. The value of the stolen property is $50.

On December 13, 2017 Dfc. D. Naughton responded to Bafford Road, Lusby for the report of a theft. The victim stated sometime between December 11th at 4:00pm and December 12th at 1:00pm an unknown suspect(s) stole a package from their mailbox containing a Harley Davidson bed spread. The value of stolen property is $85.

On December 15, 2017 Sergeant Basham responded to Grapevine Early Learning Center, Prince Frederick for the report of a theft. The victim stated that sometime between December 14th at 5:00pm and December 15th at 5:30pm an unknown suspect(s) stole their black Pacesetter trailer. The value of the stolen property is $1,530.

Theft: 17-65266
On December 16, 2017 Dfc. Wood responded to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for the report of a theft that occurred on Carla Drive, Huntingtown. The victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) had stolen their engagement ring and wedding band set. The value of the stolen property is $3,399.

Arrests:

On December 11, 2017 Dfc. Gott conducted a traffic stop in the area of S Solomons Island Road and Lore Road. Prior to Dfc. Gott exiting his vehicle, he observed the driver of the vehicle moving around and also observed his arm doing a ramming motion between his seat and the center console. Dfc. Gott made contact with the driver later identified as Parker Eidle (21) of Morgantown, West Virginia. While speaking with Mr. Eidle, Dfc. Gott observed a silver handgun in the driver’s side compartment door and a ten inch metal bowie knife between the driver’s seat and center console. Mr. Eidle was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, where he was charged with Dangerous Weapon-Conceal and Handgun in vehicle.

On December 14, 2017 Dfc. Holt conducted a traffic stop in the area of northbound Route 4 and Rousby Hall Road. Dfc. Holt made contact with the driver and other two passengers in the vehicle to inform them why they were being stopped. All occupants of the vehicle were asked to step out of the vehicle for a K9 scan to be conducted. The K9 scan resulted in a positive alert, and a search of the vehicle was performed. It was determined there were narcotics and paraphernalia both in the vehicle where the front side passenger was sitting and also on the passenger later identified as Jacqueline Causey (37) of Lusby. Causey was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, where she was charged with CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana (crack cocaine) and CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia.

On December 15, 2017 Dfc. Rediker conducted a traffic stop in the area of S Solomons Island Road and Industry Lane, Prince Frederick. While making contact with the driver identified as Reginald Sesker (54) of Lusby, Dfc. Rediker could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Mr. Sesker was asked to step out of the vehicle for a probable cause search to be conducted. The search revealed narcotics within the vehicle. Mr. Sesker was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. Mr. Sesker was charged with CDS: Possession Marijuana 10 Grams +.

On December 16, 2017 Dfc. T. Mohler conducted a traffic stop in the area of Prince Frederick Boulevard and Costley Way, Prince Frederick. Dfc. Mohler advised the driver later identified as Vincent Mandley (40) of Brandywine what the initial traffic stop violation was for. Dfc. Mohler observed the driver of the vehicle to be very nervous and avoided eye contact when asked a question. A search of the vehicle was conducted resulting in paraphernalia and CDS. Mr. Mandley was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana (Oxycodone and Oxycontin) and CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING A THREAT AT HUNTINGTOWN HIGH SCHOOL

On December 18, 2017 at approximately 9:12 a.m. the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a threat at Huntingtown High School.  While deputies were responding another call was made to the Maryland State Police.  The school was placed into a modified lockdown while Deputies and K-9 units cleared the area.  The threat was deemed not to be credible and the school resumed normal activities a short time later.  This case remains under investigation.  Anyone with any further information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 410-535-2800.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION ON PLUM POINT ROAD - DECEMBER 13TH, 2017

On December 13, 2017 at 11:53 a.m. deputies with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Plum Point Road and Cecil Lane for a report of a motor vehicle collision.  Upon arrival deputies requested members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team (CRT) respond.  Reconstruction units arrived on scene and determined that a 2017 Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound on Plum Point Road and Cecil Lane.  At the same time a 2011 Ford Escape was traveling westbound on Plum Point Road in the same area.  The preliminary investigation revealed the 2017 Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and struck the 2011 Ford Escape in a head-on collision. 
            Both the driver of the Ford Fusion and the Ford Escape were transported to the Calvert Medical Health Center where they succumbed to their injuries.   The Ford Fusion was operated by Susan Irene Brown, a 66 year old female of Prince Frederick, Maryland.  The Ford Escape was operated by Angela Elaine Sunstone, a 41 year old female of North Beach, Maryland.

On December 9, 2017 Dfc. Kreps responded to Dalrymple Road, Chesapeake Beach for the report of a burglary. The victim stated sometime between 7:00am and 12:00pm on December 9th an unknown suspect(s) broke into their shed and removed several items. The suspect(s) stole a red gas can, a red and green Craftsman mixed gas straight shaft weed eater, and a Craftsman 200 piece mechanics tool set in a black case. The value of stolen and damaged property is $420.  This case has been assigned to Det. Livingston.  Please contact him if you have any information.

The Calvert Shop with a Cop Board of Directors would like to thank all of our community partners who worked tirelessly to ensure that this year’s event would go off without a hitch.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature had different plans for Saturday, December 9th.  This was the first year that our Christmas event was impacted negatively by a weather event.  While the kids that were chosen to participate in this event will not be able to “shop with a cop,” the board will ensure the children and their families will still be able to enjoy a festive shopping experience in the near future.  A special thank you is extended to Mama Lucia Restaurant, members of the Prince Frederick Fire Department, Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, Maryland State Police Barrack “U,” Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Prince George’s County Police Department and Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.

During the week of December 4 – December 10, deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 997 calls for service throughout the community.

Burglary 17-63606:
On December 6, 2017 Dfc. Weems responded to Running Fox Road, Lusby for the report of an attempted burglary. Upon arrival, the victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) attempted to enter their residence through the basement door. The door appeared to be kicked several times damaging the door, door frame, and the door locking hardware. The estimated damaged is $500.

The victim stated sometime between December 3rd at 9:00pm and December 4th at 9:00 an unknown suspect(s) used an unknown object that struck the bottom left window of the door shattering the glass. The estimated damaged property is $500.

Damaged Property 17-64179:
On December 10, 2017 Dfc. Holt responded to Redeye Road, Lusby for the report of damaged property. The victim stated at approximately 6:30pm while driving down Redeye Road they heard a loud sound and their driver’s side front window had shattered. A BB sized hole was observed in the top of the window. The estimated damaged property is $600.

Theft 17-63575:
On December 6, 2017 Dfc. Burggraff responded to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for the report of a theft that occurred at Walmart in Dunkirk. The victim stated on December 5th at approximately 5:30pm they accidentally left their black and white clutch wallet in the shopping cart when they left. When the victim returned to the store the wallet had been removed from the shopping cart. The value of the stolen property is $20.

Theft 17-64091:
On December 9, 2017 Deputy Barger responded to the Sunderland Park and Ride for the report of a theft from vehicle. The victim stated sometime between 6:45am and 8:45pm on December 9th an unknown suspect(s) removed their rear registration plate from the vehicle. The value of the stolen property is $135.

Theft 17-64145:
On December 10, 2017 Deputy Spalding responded to the Mills Creek Boat Center, Lusby for the report of a theft. The victim stated an unknown suspect(s) stole their Loadstar tire from their trailer. The value of the stolen property is $200.

Arrest:

On December 6, 2017 Dfc. Ostazeski responded to Peace Pipe Court, Lusby for the report of a theft and a subject with multiple warrants. While responding to the residence it was confirmed through Emergency Communications that the subject at the residence had warrants through two different counties. Deputy Ostazski arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect later identified as Andrew Hood (28) of Lusby. Dfc. Ostazski placed Andrew under arrest for the outstanding warrants, and also informed him he was being accused of stealing prescription medicine. It was determined the prescription bottle Andrew had shown to the officers had multiple prescription and nonprescription medications inside he did not have a prescription for. Andrew was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with three counts of CDS: Possession-not marijuana (Suboxone, Alprazolam, Amphetamine), CDS: Opiate without Prescription, and Theft: $100 to Under $1,500.

On December 8, 2017 Deputy Boerum responded to Buckets Sports Bar, Lusby to assist Dfc. Livingston with a disorderly subject. Deputy Livingston made contact with a male later identified as Mustafa Abdualla (43) of Kansas City being disorderly in the bar. Deputy Livingston asked the male several items to leave, and helped place him in his sober driver’s vehicle. Abdualla got back out of the vehicle, walked over to Dfc. Livingston and began yelling profanities.  Dfc. Livingston placed Abdualla under arrest. Deputy Boerum placed Abdualla in his patrol vehicle and transported him to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with Disorderly Contact and Fail Obey Reasonable/ Lawful Order of Law Enforcement Officer.

On December 10, 2017 Deputy Sampson was on routine patrol in the area of the Prince Frederick Wawa when he observed a male walking across the parking lot who appeared to be confused and disoriented. Deputy Sampson approached the male subject later identified as Richard Wathen (34) of Huntingtown and noticed his pupils to be enlarged and that he was very fidgety. Deputy Sampson asked Mr. Wathen if he could perform a search of him for weapons on drugs and he stated he did not mind. While searching Mr. Wathen it was discovered he had several drugs and paraphernalia on him. Mr. Wathen was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with three counts of CDS: Possession-not marijuana (Vyvanse, Amphetamine, and Alprazolam) and four counts of CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia.

On December 3, 2017 Dfc. Hardesty responded to Pearl Place, Lusby for the report of a theft. The victim stated sometime between 2:30pm and 8:00pm on December 2nd an unknown suspect(s) stole a FedEx package from their porch containing a 55” Samsung TV. The value of the stolen property is $528.

On December 1, 2017 Deputy J. Ward responded to Calvert Medical Health Center, Prince Frederick for the report of damaged property. The victim stated an unknown suspect(s) had cracked the rear window of their vehicle. The total value of damaged property is $400.

On December 3, 2017 Dfc. Clark responded to Gordon Stinnett Avenue, Chesapeake Beach for the report of damaged property. The victim stated sometime between December 2nd at 5:30pm and December 3rd at 7:00am an unknown suspect(s) had keyed their vehicle. The total value of damaged property is $500.
