Sheriff's Office handling reports of Fake U.S. Currency

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has had multiple calls for counterfeit currency resembling United States currency with Chinese writing printed on the front and back. The counterfeit bills are sold on the internet as Chinese banknotes. They come in lots of 100 pieces and are sold for $16.99. Some of the notes have duplicate serial numbers printed on the front. Chinese bank tellers use the banknotes when learning how to count American currency.  Please be vigilant and report anyone attempting to use these fake bills.

MARYLAND STATE POLICE CONDUCTING A MISSING PERSON'S INVESTIGATION

Maryland State Police-Prince Frederick Barrack "U" is currently conducting a Missing Person's investigation.  Julyssa Danielle Simms, DOB 03-26-2002, was last seen wearing a gray sweater, black yoga pants and gray Ugg boots.  She was last seen at Calvert High School on today's date, November 29th, 2017.  The case number for this incident is 17-MSP-50900.  The investigating trooper is Tfc. Theft 17-61232: On November 22, 2017 Dfc. Childress responded to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for the report of theft from vehicle that occurred at their residence on Gunsmoke Trail, Lusby. The victim stated that sometime between November 21st at 5:00pm and November 22nd at 7:00am an unknown suspect(s) entered their unlocked vehicle and stole their Mossberg 835 shotgun and three boxes of Litefield slugs. The value of the stolen property is $1,015.

During the week of November 20 – November 26, deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1, 180 calls for service throughout the community.

Burglary 17-61269:
On November 22, 2017 Dfc. Cress responded to 7th Street, North Beach for the report of a burglary. The victim stated that on November 17th an unknown suspect(s) had stolen their 2011 black Chevrolet Camaro. It was later determined that the unknown suspect(s) entered the residence stealing two sets of keys to the Chevrolet Camaro, a set of keys to a 2016 Chevrolet pickup truck, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and multiple games. The value of the stolen property is $630.

Burglary 17-61481:
On November 23, 2017 Deputy J. Ward responded to Wilson Road, Prince Frederick for the report of a burglary. The victim stated that sometime between 4:00pm and 8:16pm an unknown suspect(s) entered their residence from the rear basement door and removed several items from inside. The items included a 14 carat necklace with a square ruby stone ornament, a 14 carat chain linked bracelet with diamond studs, 14 carat bracelet with square gold in color clip links, and two hundred dollars. The value of the stolen property is 2,700.

Theft 17-61232:
On November 22, 2017 Dfc. Childress responded to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for the report of theft from vehicle that occurred at their residence on Gunsmoke Trail, Lusby. On November 23, 2017 Dfc. Hardesty responded to Evergreen Drive, Lusby for the report of a theft from vehicle. The victim stated sometime between November 21st at 12:00pm and November 22nd at 5:00pm an unknown suspect(s) stole four diamond rings from within the vehicle. The value of the stolen property is $2,500.

Damaged Property 17-61124:
On November 21, 2017 Deputy N. Buckler responded to Gordon Stinnett Avenue, Chesapeake Beach for the report of damaged property. The victim stated sometime between November 20th at 3:45pm and November 21st at 3:34pm an unknown suspect(s) had keyed the back tailgate to their vehicle. The estimated damaged property is $500.



ARRESTS:


On November 20, 2017 Dfc. Beisel was stationary in the area of S Solomons Island Road and Industry Lane when his License Plate Reader alerted to a vehicle with stolen registration plates. After confirming with Emergency Communications that the registration plates were stolen, Dfc. Beisel then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. After making contact with the driver later identified as Shannon Corbin (41) of Lexington Park, Emergency Communications advised she also had an outstanding warrant. Dfc. Beisel removed the stolen registration plates from the vehicle, placed Ms. Corbin under arrest and transported her to the Calvert County Detention Center where she was charged with Theft: $100 to under $1,500, Sell/Possession Stolen Manufactured Number, and other traffic citations.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE RESPONDS TO SHOOTING IN LUSBY

On November 18, 2017 at approximately 1638 hours a call was dispatched for a shooting that had occurred at 11713 Big Bear Lane in Lusby, Calvert County Maryland. Patrol units arrived on scene and found that a male had in fact been shot. Detectives and Crime Lab from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded. It was determined that a person known to the victim was sitting in a car while the victim was standing on the outside of the vehicle. The suspect then shot the victim with a handgun striking him with non-life threatening injuries. The victim was transported for medical treatment and released within 24 hours. As this is an ongoing investigation the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the victim’s name nor the suspects name at this time. This was an isolated incident and further details will be released as the investigation progresses. Detective Josh Buck of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau is the lead Detective. Burglary 17-59123:
On November 10, 2017 Deputy Boerum responded to Calvert Drive, Chesapeake Beach for the report of a burglary. Burglary 17-59197:
On November 10, 2017 Dfc. D. Naughton responded to Gunsmoke Circle, Lusby for the report of a burglary. The victim stated they got home to find their bay window in the kitchen had been tampered with from the outside and the screen had also been removed. It was determined sometime between 12:15pm and 1:05pm on November 10th the unknown suspect(s) used the air conditioning unit to get to the bay kitchen window attempting to pry it open. The estimated damaged property is 500.

Theft 17-58495:
On November 6, 2017 Deputy Barger responded to Busters Lane, Owings for the report of a theft. The victim stated sometime between November 1st at 7:00am and November 3rd 12:00pm an unknown suspect(s) had removed their Republic Service trash can from the end of their driveway. The value of the stolen property is $88.

Theft 17-58680:
On November 7, 2017 Deputy Sampson responded to Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick for the report of theft from multiple vehicles. The victim stated sometime between October 28th and November 4th an unknown suspect(s) had ransacked and stole items out of three vehicles in their driveway. The items included Durham 50 piece ratchet set, Klein pocket knife, Carhartt beanie cap, loose change, and an aluminum flashlight. The value of the stolen property is $306.

Theft 17-58766:
On November 8, 2017 Dfc. Locke responded to Greenhill Court, Huntingtown for the report of a theft from vehicle. The victim stated sometime between November 7th at 9:30pm and November 8th at 7:15am an unknown suspect(s) shattered their front passenger side door window and stole a white Michael Kors satchel and a Texas Instrument graphing calculator. The value of the stolen and damaged property is $790.

Theft 17-58842:
On November 8, 2017 Deputy Rzepkowski responded to Hollow Way, Huntingtown for the report of a theft from vehicle. The victim stated sometime between November 7th at 7:00pm and November 8th at 8:00am an unknown suspect(s) went into their unlocked vehicle and stole a Kate Spade purse, Maryland driver’s license, bank card, and the key fob for the vehicle. The value of the stolen property is $550.

Theft 17-58825:
On November 8, 2017 Deputy Rzepkowski responded to Sports-Clips on Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick for the report of a theft. The victim stated a black male approximately 30 years old with a thin build and no facial hair entered the store and stole a Mitch Matterial Puck. The male was wearing a black wind breaker style jacket with black jeans.  The value of the stolen property is $17.75

Theft 17-59159:
On November 10, 2017 Deputy Sampson responded to Deane Avenue, Prince Frederick for the report of a theft from vehicle. The victim stated sometime between 2:00am and 4:00am on November 10th unknown suspect(s) had broken the passenger side door window and stole their wallet and a sterling silver ring. The value of the damaged and stolen property is $353.

Damaged Property 17-58457:
On November 6, 2017 Dfc. Y. Bortchevsky responded to 30th Street, Chesapeake Beach for the report of damaged property. The victim stated they discovered the window screen located on the south side of the residence slashed. The estimated damaged property is $50.


ARRESTS:

On November 12, 2017 Corporal Wilson was in the WAWA parking lot in Prince Frederick, attempting to locate a reckless driver when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the far east part of the parking lot. Corporal Wilson observed a male later identified as Graham Whitson (27) of Mechanicsville standing outside of the vehicle near the passenger side door, along with a Bud Light can that was placed on the ground under the vehicle where Whitson was standing. While speaking with Whitson outside of the vehicle, Corporal Wilson could see drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. Deputy Wilson than made contact with the owner of the vehicle later identified as Jeffrey Whittington (26) of Mechanicsville, and asked if there was any illegal items in the vehicle. Deputy Wilson conducted a K9 scan of the vehicle, resulting in a positive alert for narcotics. A search of the vehicle was conducted resulting in narcotics found inside the vehicle. Whitson and Whittington were both placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. Whitson was charged with CDS: Possession-not marijuana (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) and Litter/Dump: Under 100 LBS. Whittington was charged with CDS: Possession-not marijuana (Oxycodone), CDS: Possession-not marijuana (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide), and CDS: Possession with Intent to Distribute.

On November 11, 2017 Deputy Boerum conducted a traffic stop at Fastop located on HG Trueman Road, Lusby. While attempting to explain the traffic violations, the driver later identified as Donald Unkle (28) of Lusby was becoming very argumentative. Corporal Wilson responded to the traffic stop, and all occupants were asked to exit the vehicle for a K9 scan to be conducted. The K9 scan resulted in a positive alert for CDS. A search of the vehicle was completed and revealed narcotics, along with brass knuckles. Unkle was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with CDS: Possession-not marijuana (cocaine) and Dangerous Weapon – Conceal.

During the week of October 30 – November 5, deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1, 244 calls for service throughout the community.


Burglary 17-57836:
On November 2, 2017 Deputy Sampson responded to Yardley Drive, Prince Frederick for the report of a burglary. The victim stated when they arrived home, they noticed the gate on their side fence had been opened along with the back shed door. A search was conducted of the residence and shed with negative results for any stolen items. However, the victim stated the ladder found leaning on the shed door, was usually inside the shed.

Burglary 17-57851:
On November 2, 2017 Deputy Barger responded to Alta Drive, Sunderland for the report of a burglary. The victim stated that unknown suspect(s) had broken into their shed. The victim stated the suspect(s) had cut and removed the Tumbler combination lock and stole a 100ft extension cord from inside the shed. The victim also noticed multiple items around the back porch of the residence that did not belong to them including red plastic gas cans, a red bolt cutter, black plastic funnel, black bucket, and various copper and steel pipe fittings in the woods behind the residence. The value of the stolen property is $65.

Theft 17-57206:
On October 30, 2017 Deputy R. Evans responded to Caudles Way, Saint Leonard for the report of a theft from vehicle. The victim stated that sometime between October 29th at 4:00pm and October 30th at 7:30am an unknown suspect(s) entered their unlocked vehicle, stealing a backpack leaf blower and a foldout hedge trimmer. The value of the stolen property is $750.

Theft 17-57519:
On October 31, 2017 Dfc. Hardesty responded to Clay Hammond Road, Prince Frederick for the report of a theft from vehicle. The victim stated sometime between October 30th at 3:30pm and October 31st at 8:00am an unknown suspect(s) entered two vehicles in the driveway, removing items out of each vehicle. The items included a bag containing multiple leather jackets, a tiara, a spring jacket, and a box with leftovers containing funnel cake fries. The value of the stolen property is $650.

Theft 17-57857:
On November 2, 2017 Deputy Sampson responded to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for the report of a theft. The victim stated on October 24th their UPS package containing a TomTom 5.0 Touchscreen GPS was stolen from their front porch of their residence located on Childress Trail, Lusby. The value of the stolen property is $150.

Damaged Property 17-57306:
On October 30, 2017 Deputy R. Evans responded to Olivet Road, Lusby for the report of damaged property. The victim stated that sometime between October 27th at 4:00pm and October 28th at 8:50am an unknown suspect(s) intentionally damaged the weather stripping of their vehicle. The estimated damaged property is $25.

Damaged Property 17-58158:
On November 4, 2017 Dfc. Locke responded to Beach Drive, Chesapeake Beach for the report of damaged property. The victim stated sometime between November 3rd at 11:00pm and November 4th at 8:00am unknown suspect(s) struck their vehicle with a BB gun leaving dents in the door and shattering the right rear window of their vehicle. The estimated damaged property is $500.


ARRESTS:

On November 2, 2017 Deputy Boerum responded to the 7-Eleven located at 15 N Solomons Island Road for a trespass complaint. Deputy Boerum arrived on scene to make contact with the subject later identified as Aaron Ballard (33) of Prince Frederick, who was currently being detained by an off duty deputy. Deputy Boerum confirmed the trespass order with Emergency Communications, and placed Ballard into custody. Ballard was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with Trespass: Private Property.

On November 2, 2017 Deputies responded to the Prince Frederick WAWA for the report of possible CDS activity. Dfc. DeFelice responded on scene and located the vehicle matching the description provided by Emergency Communications. Dfc. DeFelice observed the vehicle leave the parking lot at a high rate of speed, and failed to stop at the stop sign. It was also confirmed, the registration plates displayed on the vehicle belonged to a different vehicle. Dfc. DeFelice initiated a traffic stop, making contact with the driver identified as Nicholas Gegor (30) of Chesapeake Beach and the passenger as Rachel Pitcher (28) of Broomes Island. Cpl. Wilson was on scene and per  formed a K9 scan of the vehicle which revealed a positive alert for narcotics. A search of the vehicle and persons was conducted revealing narcotics and paraphernalia. Deputy Boerum placed Gegor under arrest and transported him to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with CDS: Possesion-not marijuana (Oxycodone), CDS: Possession with intent to Distribute: Narcotics, and CDS: Possession Paraphernalia. Deputy Wilson placed Pitcher under arrest and transported her to the Calvert County Detention Center where she was charged with CDS: Possession with intent to Distribute: Narcotics and CDS: Possession-not marijuana (Oxycodone).

SHERIFF'S OFFICE INCIDENT BRIEFINGS - NOVEMBER 2ND, 2017

During the week of October 23 – October 29, deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1, 275 calls for service throughout the community.

Burglary 17-56541:
On October 26, 2017 Deputy Williamson responded to Frances Lane, Owings for the report of a burglary. The victim stated that sometime between October 25th at 7:00pm and October 26th at 12:00pm an unknown suspect entered their shed stealing an Eagle 5 gallon metal gas can that contained 5 gallons of gasoline, and a Masterlock key lock. The value of the stolen property is $45.

Theft 17-56961:
On October 20, 2017 Dfc. Durner responded to Running Fox Court, Lusby for the report of a theft. The victim stated that sometime between October 26th at 9:00pm and October 28th at 10:00am unknown suspect(s) stole a 50 Caliber Thompson Center Encore firearm from their vehicle. The value of the stolen property is $700.

Theft 17-56038:
On October 23, 2017 Deputy Sampson responded to Baythorne Road, Prince Frederick for the report of a theft. The victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) stole a package containing a Razer Ripsaw Capture Card from the residence. The value of the stolen property is $170.

Theft 17-56472:
On October 26, 2017 Dfc. Wood responded to Lenoir Road, Chesapeake Beach for the report of a theft. The victim stated sometime between 2:00am and 5:00am on October 26th unknown suspect(s) cut and removed approximately thirty feet of welding cable from an Arc Welder. The value of the stolen property is $700.

Theft 17-56824:
On October 27, 2017 Dfc. Beisel responded to the Kmart, Prince Frederick for the report of a theft. The victim stated at approximately 4:55pm their wallet was left in the bathroom. At approximately 5:05pm when the customer service desk advised the wallet had been turned in, it was discovered there was cash stolen from inside the wallet. The value of the stolen property is $140.

Theft 17-56985:
On October 28, 2017 Dfc. Durner responded to Lake Terrace, Lusby for the report of a theft. Upon arrival, the victim stated a package containing hair extensions was stolen from the residence. The value of the stolen property is $47.

Damaged Property 17-56059:
On October 23, 2017 Deputy Barger responded to St. Andrews Drive, Chesapeake Beach for the report of damaged property. The victim stated that at approximately 8:30pm in the area of Chesapeake Beach Road and Harrison Boulevard they observed a person in the median. As the victim slowed down, the unknown person(s) threw an object at the vehicle causing a crack to the windshield. The estimated damaged property is $500.

Damaged Property 17-56440:
On October 25, 2017 Dfc. Ostazeski responded to Durango Drive, Lusby for the report of damaged property. Upon arrival, the victim stated that an unknown suspect(s) struck the rear window of the vehicle breaking the glass. The estimated damaged property is $458.

Tampering 17-56438:
On October 25, 2017 Dfc. Rediker responded to Holland Cliffs Road, Huntingtown for the report of a tampering with motor vehicle. Upon arrival the victim stated sometime between October 24th at 7:00pm and October 25th at 8:00pm unknown suspect(s) had rummaged through their unlocked vehicle. There were no items taken from the vehicle.


ARRESTS:

On October 23, 2017 Deputies responded to the Calvert County Public Library for the report of a subject believed to be on CDS. Deputy Sampson arrived on scene and immediately started observing the subject later identified as Sharon Kennedy (49) of Prince Frederick. Deputy Sampson observed Ms. Kennedy turn away from him, and while attempting to walk away drop paraphernalia on the floor. Deputy Sampson placed Ms. Kennedy under arrest and then a search of her and the vehicle was conducted revealing narcotics. Ms. Kennedy was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with two counts of CDS: Possession-not marijuana (heroin, amphetamine) and CDS: Possession Paraphernalia.
