PRESS RELEASE FOR FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH

On November 6, 2016 at approximately 1857 hours, units from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office came upon a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcyclist near the intersection of Rt. 4 and the southern entrance to Main Street.  Det. Rector arrived on location and started CPR on an adult male who was suffering from injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.  CPR was stopped and the adult male was pronounced deceased with the assistance of the crew of Ambulance 47 from the Prince Frederick Volunteer Rescue Squad.  It became evident that the individual had sustained injuries which were incompatible with life.

Units from the Crash Reconstruction Team were notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.  Cpl. Wilson, DFC Hardesty, CPL Moschetto, and Det. Rector arrived on scene and began collecting evidence to determine what series of events had occurred to cause the crash.

Initial investigation determined that Clifton Emanuel Savoy was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Maryland Route 4, north of the southern entrance to Main Street.  Savoy struck a deer which ran into his path of travel, causing his motorcycle to go into a skid and ultimately ejecting Savoy from the motorcycle.  Savoy’s body came to rest in the travel lane of Rt. 4 and was hit by several vehicles that were unable to take evasive action to avoid striking him. Two of the striking vehicles stopped and remained on location to provide witness statements to the investigating deputies.

Forensic Investigator Mckee responded to the location and performed his investigation.  Lee Funeral Home responded and transported Savoy’s body to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for a pending autopsy.

DFC Hardesty is the lead reconstructionist in this case. If anyone has any information on this crash or the series of events that led up to it, please contact DFC Hardesty at 410-535-2800 or email him at hardesjm@co.cal.md.us.
