CDS Violation Case #14-14578:
On March 15 at 5:09 p.m. Sheriff Mike Evans observed a vehicle weaving on the roadway and operating at a very slow speed near Main Street and Church Street in Prince Frederick.  He followed the vehicle and performed a traffic stop at Md. Rt. 4 and Westlake Boulevard.  He made contact with the driver, identified as Lisa Renee Brooks, 29 of Chesapeake Beach.  Evans observed there to be four minor children in the back seat.  Dep. P. Mosely and DFC J. Hardesty responded to assist and found Brooks to be under the influence of suspected drugs and to be in possession of suspected drugs.  Brooks was arrested and charged with driving while impaired by drugs and/or alcohol and possession of a schedule II drug: Phencyclidine.

CDS Violation Case #14-16200:
On March 24 at 1:39 a.m. DFC R. Kampf observed a vehicle cross over the center line on HG Trueman Road in Lusby.  He conducted a traffic stop and found the driver, Crystal Marie White-Peterson, 32 of Lexington Park, to be driving under the influence and to be in possession of suspected drugs.  She was charged with Driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a schedule IV drug: Clonazepam.

CDS Violation Case #14-16557:
On March 25 at 1:26 p.m. Dep. B. Schaefer assisted Sgt. M. Bomgardner on Md. Rt. 4 northbound near Western Shores Boulevard with a traffic stop.  The driver, identified as Philip Anthony D’Agostino, 37 of Huntingtown, was found to have an outstanding warrant through Calvert County.  D’Agostino was observed moving objects around in the vehicle and was taken into custody on the warrant and searched.  He was found to be in possession of suspected drugs.  D’Agostino was served with the warrant and also charged with possession of a schedule III drug; Buprenorphine.

Burglary Case #14-16566:
Dep. C. Ward is investigating a burglary to a home in the 11500 block of Big Sandy Run Road in Lusby that occurred during the daytime hours on March 25.  An Xbox 360, some games and money was stolen.  The investigation continues.
Destruction of Property Case #14-16590:
The door of a home in the 1700 block of Orwell Court in Prince Frederick was damaged on March 25 between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. as if someone had tried to gain entry to the home.  Nothing was stolen.  Dep. B. Schaefer is investigating.
Theft Case #14-16701:
Unknown suspect(s) stole approximately 50 feet of copper piping from a home on Webb’s Lane in Dunkirk overnight between March 24 and 25.  Dep. A. Curtin is investigating.
Burglary Case #14-16889:
The shed behind a home on Sheckells Road in Huntingtown was burglarized between March 23 and 27 and over $1500 in property was stolen.  Toro, Poulan and Stihl chain saws and blowers were taken.  Cpl. B. Gray is continuing the investigation.
Fraud Case #14-16928:
The victim of a fraud advised DFC P. Wood that he recently received a letter in the mail from a law firm in New York.  He called the telephone number and was told he had won money but that he needed to go get a money card, put $225 on it and call back.  He did this and they asked him for the number on the back of the money card, which he gave them.  He was then told it would be a few days to process paperwork but then he would receive his winnings.  He did not receive anything.  The victim was advised this was most likely a fraud.  He was advised by DFC Wood not to give information to anyone he did not recognize or could not verify as a legitimate business.

A wallet and Garmin Nuvi GPS were stolen from the cab of a delivery truck that had parked behind the Petco in Prince Frederick on March 28.  The owner left the vehicle to make deliveries from 7:20 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. and found the items missing when he returned.  DFC Y. Bortchevsky is investigating.

PRESS RELEASE FOR DARE GRADUATION

     On Wednesday, March 26th, the 5th Grade D.A.R.E. graduation at Our Lady Star of the Sea School in Solomons was held.  Twenty-two 5th graders celebrated completing the 10 day elementary school “Keepin’ it REAL” curriculum.  They were joined by their families, Commissioner Nutter, Redskins Cheerlead Ashley Taylor (guest speaker), and other fellow D.A.R.E. instructors.  This was the first graduation at Our Lady Star of the Sea for DFC. M. Robshaw, who was assisted by Sgt. M. Bomgardner.  The graduation opened with a few words from Sgt. Bomgardner about the importance of making safe and responsible choices and fulfilling goals.  Following Sgt. Bomgardner was a talk from the guest speaker, Redskins Cheerleader Ashley Taylor, who delighted the crowd with her experiences from D.A.R.E. class years ago and how D.A.R.E. helped her reach her goal of becoming a Redskins Cheerleader.
    At the graduation, three students from the graduating class were given an opportunity to read their D.A.R.E. essays.  The D.A.R.E. essays gave students the opportunity to reflect on what they learned during D.A.R.E.  DFC M. Robshaw awarded the three essay winners with their own stuffed DAREN the Lion.  The D.A.R.E. graduating students were then awarded with a certificate of completion from the D.A.R.E. program by Deacon Chris Jensen, Principal of the school.  DFC Robshaw gave the final speech to the graduating class congratulating them on their accomplishments and told the graduating class to always remember to make safe and responsible decisions in life because you never know what the future holds.

Theft Case #14-15065:
Dep. T. Roberts responded to a home on Hoile Lane in Huntingtown for the report of stolen mail from mailboxes that occurred during the daytime on March 18.  The treasurer of the Twin Lakes Homeowners Association reported that the envelopes from several pieces of mail were found in the roadway and had been torn open.  Separate checks that had been inside three of the envelopes of the outgoing mail were missing.  The investigation is continuing.

Theft, CDS Violation Case #14-15069:

DFC P. Wood responded to the Prince Frederick Giant on March 18 at 5:00 p.m. for the report of a man attempting to pass counterfeit money.  The man had left the store and gotten into a vehicle and left the scene.  DFC J. Denton observed the vehicle leaving the McDonald’s parking lot and conducted a stop.  He made contact with the driver, identified as Freddie Odeil Commodore, 49 of Port Republic and asked what had happened at the Giant store.  Commodore advised that the store clerk told him the money he handed her was fake and that he advised her it was not and he then got frustrated with the clerk and left the store.  Two passengers in the vehicle were both causing a disturbance and refused to follow police orders.  All three subjects were found to be in possession of suspected drugs and were arrested. Sgt. R. Selkirk made contact with the Giant employees who advised that Commodore had attempted to conceal packaged meat products in his pants but had dropped them in one of the aisles.  Commodore, Varonica Gray, 51 of Owings, and Daniel Corie Jones, 32 of Prince Frederick, were each charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine in sufficient quantity to indicate an intent to distribute, and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; a digital scale.  Commodore was also charged with theft less than $100.

Burglary Case #14-15153:

Dep. W. Beisel is investigating the burglary of a home in the 1600 block of Coster Road in Lusby sometime between March 3 and March 19.  A neighbor reported seeing two men enter the home and then come out with two toilets and two vanities and load them into a vehicle and drive away.  The investigation is continuing.

CDS Violation Case #14-15313:

On March 19 at 10:25 p.m. DFC Y. Bortchevsky responded to the scene of an accident in the 6200 block of Stephen Reid Road in Huntingtown.  Upon arrival he observed a vehicle crashed into a tree.  The driver, identified as Larisa Katerina Gallagher, 27 of Owings, advised she lost control and went off the roadway, first striking a mailbox, and then the tree.  Gallagher had a strong odor of alcohol.  Gallagher refused medical attention.  She was found to be driving while under the influence and was charged.  Suspected marijuana was found inside the vehicle.  Gallagher was also charged with possession of marijuana less than 10 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia; a wooden container.

Burglary Case #14-15525:

A homeowner in the 400 block of Dogwood Drive in Lusby advised DFC J. Hardesty that during the daytime hours on March 20, someone burglarized his home and stole $950 worth of property.  The investigation continues.

CDS Violation Case #14-15921:

On March 22 at 2:42 p.m. Dep. D. Naughton assisted Sgt. V. Bortchevsky with a traffic stop on a vehicle at the Dunkirk Wawa.  The driver, identified as Christina Marie Maier, 24 of Great Mills, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was charged with possession of controlled paraphernalia; a hypodermic syringe.

CDS Violation Case #14-16037:

DFC R. Kampf conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on March 23 at 1:00 a.m. at Broomes Island Road and Mills Pond Road in Port Republic.  He found a passenger in the vehicle, Haley Nicole Bergendahl, 20 of Huntingtown, to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was cited with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; a metal grinder.

CDS Violation Case #14-16054:

On March 23 at 2:33 a.m. Dep. A. Curtin responded to a home in the 1000 block of Horse Pen Run in Huntingtown for the report of a verbal dispute.  Upon arrival, he determined no physical assault had taken place.  Dep. Curtin then observed three smoking devices.  Charles Edward Moreland, III, 36, was cited for possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; a glass smoking device.

Disorderly Conduct Case #14-14434:
On March 14 at 10:25 p.m. DFC R. Weems observed a person lying in the roadway in the 3900 block of Gordon Stinnett Avenue in Chesapeake Beach.  He attempted to speak with the person, later identified as Desmond Curtis Freeland, 24 of Chesapeake Beach, but Freeland only exhibited shallow breathing, drooling and garbled speech.  Weems suspected Freeland had possibly ingested drugs.  Freeland was transported by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was assessed and released.  Weems charged Freeland with disorderly conduct.

Destruction of Property Case #14-14774:
Dep. W. Beisel is investigating damage caused to a business in the 14500 block of Solomons Island Road South in Solomons Island when unknown suspect(s) shot a projectile through a front window causing $300 in damage.  The incident occurred sometime between March 9 and 16.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. Beisel at 410-535-2800.
Theft from Vehicle Case #14-14985:
Someone stole loose change from an unlocked vehicle parked outside a home in the 8400 block of Cedar Lane in Lusby.  The theft occurred between midnight and 6:00 a.m. on March 18.  Dep. D. Naughton is investigating.
Destruction of Property Case #14-14994:
Unknown suspect(s) damaged the rear brake light and driver side rear window on a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in the 3100 block of Queensberry Drive in Huntingtown.  Dep. W. Rector is investigating the incident which happened overnight between March 17 and 18.
Theft from Vehicle Case #14-15075:
Sometime between March 16 and March 18, someone stole a wallet out of an unlocked vehicle parked outside a home in the 8200 block of Sycamore Road in Lusby.  Dep. S. Moran is investigating.

PRESS RELEASE FOR LNG PROTEST MARCH 13TH, 2014

    On March 13, 2014 members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office were assigned to the Calvert County Circuit Courthouse located at 175 Main Street, Prince Frederick, Calvert County, Maryland, for a possible protest rally that was alleged to have civil disobedience as a component.  The organizers of the protest had issued press releases and made public comment on social media sites that they intended to conduct acts of civil disobedience in protest to a proposed liquid natural gas liquefaction project that is in the Lusby area of Calvert County.  At approximately 11:00 a.m. a group of approximately 25 persons gathered at the corner of Main Street and Duke Street.  Some could be seen holding signs in opposition to the aforementioned proposed project.  At approximately 11:10 a.m. the group moved to the public square in front of the main entrance to the courthouse.  Members of the group held up signs, and others led chants on public address systems against the project.  A few moments later a female from the group approached Special Deputy Evan Elkins, who was assigned to the front entrance, and stated she had six people who intended to block the entrance of the courthouse and anticipated that arrests would be made by law enforcement.  Deputy Elkins advised her that blocking the entrance was illegal and those doing so would be arrested.  She stated she understood and offered to provide the identifications of those intending to be arrested.  Deputy Elkins told her she could keep the identifications until the persons were arrested. 
    A few moments later, six people, who were later identified respectively as David Brooke Hardy, 70, of Lusby, Emily Michaela Tanner, 20, of Virginia Beach, Gabriel Barrett McKinney, 18, of Baltimore, Ashok Lalchand Chandwaney 21, of Washington state, Ruth-Ann Lani Tyson, 20, of St. Mary’s City and Ori Michael Gutin, 19, of Rockville, walked to the front of the main entrance to the courthouse and stood shoulder to shoulder holding signs.  A female and male, not involved in the incident, approached the front door and were blocked by the six from entering the courthouse.  Special Deputy Elkins and Special Deputy Curtis Boswell informed the six offenders that they were under arrest and escorted them into the lobby where they were handcuffed, searched, and transported to the lock-up area for processing.
    All six were charged with CR 10-201 (c) (1) under the disturbance of the public peace laws. The charges filed were for *Disturb Peace Hindering Passage* the more specific charge is did willfully obstruct and hinder the free passage of another and others in a public place or on a public conveyance. All of the persons arrested complied and cooperated with law enforcement during the arrest processing phase. The charges filed are a misdemeanor and carry a fine of $500 or 60 days incarceration or both.

CDS Violation Case #14-12927:
On March 7 at 3:11 p.m. DFC R. Wilson approached a vehicle parked illegally in the Lusby Giant parking lot.  A passenger in the vehicle was found to have suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia.  Amanda A. Parsley, 35 of Avenue, was arrested and charged with possession of Heroin, possession of Oxycodone, possession of drug paraphernalia; hypodermic syringe needles, and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; aluminum soda cans.

CDS Violation Case #14-12948:
On March 7 at 5:04 p.m. Dep. A. Curtin responded to the parking lot of the Prince Frederick Walmart for the report of a male inside a truck using a controlled dangerous substance.  Curtin located the vehicle and made contact with the male, identified as Thomas James Walker, 29 of Prince Frederick.  He found Walker to be in possession of suspected drugs, arrested him and charged him with possession of Oxycodone and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; two syringes.

Destruction of Property Case #14-12950:
The rear door of a home was damaged as if someone was attempting to gain entry in the 12900 block of Barreda Boulevard in Lusby during the daytime hours on March 7.  The damage is estimated at $150.  No entry was made and nothing was stolen.  Neighbors report having seen suspicious persons in the area lately.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. S. Moran at 410-535-2800.
Burglary Case #14-13277:
DFC R. Wilson took the report of a burglary at a home in the 12800 block of Laurel Way in Lusby that occurred sometime between March 6 and 7.  Some cash was stolen from inside the home.  The investigation is continuing.
Burglary Case #14-13291:
A home in the 400 block of Dogwood Drive in Lusby was burglarized between March 7 and 9.  Cash was stolen and a door was damaged.  DFC R. Wilson is investigating.
CDS Violation Case #14-13029:
On March 8 shortly after midnight, Dep. S. Moran conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Appeal Lane in Lusby.  He found the driver, Ashley M. Tilch, 25 of Owings, to be in possession of suspected drugs.  She was charged with possession of Oxycodone, possession of Alprazolam, use of drug paraphernalia; a gold pill case, possession of Oxycodone wile detained in Calvert County Detention Center and possession of Alprazolam while detained in Calvert County Detention Center.

Theft Case #14-13292:
A 17-year-old female from Shadyside and a 16-year-old female from Lothian were each charged on a youth report with theft by DFC P. Aurich after they were seen shoplifting by a security employee at the Dunkirk Walmart on March 9 at 12:44 p.m.  The juvenile from Lothian was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; a glass pipe.  They were released to their parents.

A complainant advised Dep. W. Durner that he observed a black Jeep vehicle driving on the grass tearing it up at the intersection of Lake Ridge Drive and Alta Drive in Sunderland on March 9 at 4:30 p.m.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. Durner at 410-535-2800.

Burglary Case #14-10526:
DFC W. Wells responded to an alarm at the Verizon Wireless Store in Dunkirk on February 24 at 3:29 a.m.  A flat screen television and several phones were stolen.  The investigation is continuing.
Theft Case #14-10833:
Unknown suspect(s) stole metal iron and tubing from behind a business on Investment Court in Owings sometime overnight between February 24 and 25.  The metal is valued at over $500.  Dep. C. Idol is continuing the investigation.
Disorderly Conduct Case #14-10838:
Dep. T. Buckler arrested Joseph Michael Cardellino, 52 of Port Republic, on February 25 at 7:50 a.m. near Town and Country Liquors in St. Leonard after he received a call to check the welfare of a man who appeared intoxicated.  Cardellino was seen lying in the grass near the roadway and became belligerent when Buckler advised him he would drive him home.  Cardellino continued to act in a disorderly manner by yelling and cursing.  He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Dep. W. Beisel is investigating a burglary to a home that occurred sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on February 28 in the 11800 block of Cove Point Road in Lusby.  The suspect(s) stole loose change.
CDS Violation Case #14-11605:
On February 28 at 9:25 p.m. DFC Y. Bortchevsky responded to an abandoned home in the 3700 block of Hunting Creek Road in Huntingtown for the report of a car parked in the driveway.  Upon making contact with the two occupants, he found the male seated in the drivers’ seat to appear drowsy and to have suspected drug paraphernalia and a white powdery substance on him.  A search revealed suspected drugs.  Daniel Aaron Streeter, 21 of Huntingtown, was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule II drug; Oxycodone and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; a short plastic straw.

CDS Violation Case #14-11842:
On March 1 at 8:30 p.m. Dep. L. Kelly responded to the area of West Chesapeake Beach Road and Journey Drive in Owings to assist Cpl. D. Canning with a traffic stop arrest.  Cpl. Canning conducted a traffic stop and learned the driver, Kipp Darnell Brooks, 47 of Owings, was driving on a Maryland license that had been suspended four times.  Brooks was arrested by Dep. Kelly and found to be in possession of suspected drugs.  Brooks was charged with possession of a schedule II drug; crack cocaine in sufficient quantity to indicate an intent to distribute, possession of a schedule III drug; acetaminophen codeine in sufficient quantity to indicate an intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine, possession of acetaminophen codeine, and two counts of use of drug paraphernalia; two clear plastic baggies.

Someone broke into a shed behind the Phillips House on Duke Street in Prince Frederick sometime between February 28 and March 3.  Nothing was stolen.  DFC J. Denton is investigating.

Sometime overnight between March 3 and 4, someone smashed a window on a vehicle parked outside a home in the 7800 block of Lake Shore Drive in Owings and stole a wallet.  Dep. D. Naughton is investigating.
