PRESS RELEASE FOR BURGLARY/BARRICADE WITH APPREHENSION

On December 30, 2015, at approximately 6:00am, Calvert Deputies were called to a residence on Rudolph Lane in Lusby for the report of a burglary in progress.  A male had entered the victim’s home and fled upon setting off an audible alarm.  The occupants were able to relay information so that Deputies were able to identify the suspect, Michael Swearingen, age 24.  Deputies responded to his home on Alamo Trail and observed him in his home.  After multiple attempts to make contact with him were ignored, the Special Operations Team was called in for a barricade situation at 6:15am.  He was taken into custody and charged with burglary and was also served an outstanding Warrant for resisting arrest.

PRESS RELEASE FOR ROBBERY SUSPECT APPREHENSION

On December 29, 2015, at approximately 2:00am, Calvert Deputies were dispatched to the BP Gas Station located on West Chesapeake Beach Road in Dunkirk for the report of a robbery.  A lone suspect jumped over the counter, removed money from the cash register and was able to flee on foot.  A canvas of the area was conducted with the assistance of the Maryland State Police, Anne Arundel County Police and Deputy T. Smith and his K-9 partner, Loki. 34 year old Brett Lott, of Friendship, MD, was later identified as the person responsible for the robbery. With the swift action by all Agencies involved, the suspect was apprehended and taken to the Detention Center, where he was charged with strong armed robbery.

CDS Violation Case #15-69384:

On December 27, 2015 Deputy N. Gilmore conducted a traffic stop on Rt. 4, south of Plum Point Road, Huntingtown, and made contact with the driver, Renee Patterson, 28, of Chesapeake Beach and passenger Lea Foster, 30, of Huntingtown.  Patterson was found to be in possession CDS (Suboxone, Adderall) and paraphernalia (straw, wrapper).  While being processed at the Detention Center, she was also charged with two (2) counts of taking contraband into a place of confinement.  Foster was arrested for possession of CDS (Suboxone, Adderall) and paraphernalia (wrapper).

CDS Violation Case #15-69353:

On December 26, 2015 Deputy R. Kreps initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle he observed being driven in an unsafe manner.  The driver, Jennifer Carlton, 32, of North Beach, was arrested for possession of CDS (Alprazolam) and for multiple traffic violations, including Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.   She was transported to the Detention Center.

On December 25, 2015 Deputy J. Denton conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner.  The impaired driver, David Foard, 46, of St. Leonard was found to be in possession of Oxycontin.  He was arrested and transported to the Detention Center.

Destruction of Property Case #15-68964:

Deputy K. Williamson responded to Hilendale Way, in Prince Frederick, for a reported destruction of property, which took place sometime overnight on December 23, 2015.  An unknown person damaged a fence, allowing horses to leave their enclosure.   If anyone observed suspicious activity in the area, they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

On December 23, 2015 Deputy C. Ward responded to Dunleigh Court, in Dunkirk, for the report of a destruction of property.  During the overnight hours of December 22, an unknown person had smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle with an unknown tool.  Nothing appears to have been stolen.

Disorderly Conduct Case #15-68687:

On December 22, 2015 Deputy T. Mohler was dispatched to a business on West Ward Road, in Dunkirk, for the report of a disorderly person.  Susan Scaduto, 52, of Lusby, was found to be intoxicated and subsequently arrested for Trespassing, Alcohol Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct and Fail to Obey a Lawful Order.

Theft Case #15-68802:

On December 23, 2015 Deputy C. Ward was called to Dunleigh Drive, in Dunkirk, for the report of a theft from a vehicle.  During the overnight hours on December 22, the victim’s vehicle window was broken and a purse was stolen.

On December 23, 2015 Deputy C. Ward was called to Lyons Creek Road, in Dunkirk, for the report of a theft from vehicle.  During the overnight hours on December 22, the victim’s vehicle was broken into and a purse was stolen.  The purse and its’ contents were later found in a neighbor’s yard. 

Theft Case #15-69281:

On December 26, 2015 Deputy A. Curtin responded to a report of a shoplifter at the Giant Grocery Store in Dunkirk.  He arrested Maggie Williams, 31, of Upper Marlboro, for theft, providing a false name and possession of drug paraphernalia (straw).  She was transported to the Detention Center and also served with two (2) open Warrants from Prince George’s County.

Theft Case #15-68648:

On December 22, 2015 Deputy Y. Bortchevsky was dispatched to the Giant Grocery Store in Lusby for the report of a shoplifting.  An unknown male was observed with several containers of seafood and left the store without paying for the items.

Theft Case #15-69492:

On December 27, 2015 Deputy T. Mohler was called to Hallowing Point Road, in Prince Frederick, for the report of a theft.  Someone had stolen a 2’ x 3’ magnet (picture of a boy) from the side of the victim’s vehicle.   Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Theft Case #15-68799:

On December 23, 2015 Deputy R. Weems responded to a theft on Crazy Horse Trail, in Lusby.  A heat pump had been removed from the rear of the residence.  It is unknown when the theft occurred, due to the home having been vacant for approximately 6 - 12 months.

On December 23, 2015 Deputy M. Naecker responded to the report of a theft which took place at the Marriott Springhill Suites, in Prince Frederick.   Sometime between 9:00am - 9:00pm on December 21, someone entered a hotel room and removed multiple pieces of jewelry.  

Theft Case #15-68452:

On December 21, 2015 Deputy V. O’Donnell stopped an aggressive driver near Parker’s Creek Road in Port Republic and discovered the driver, Ryan Cox, 31, of Lusby, to be driving under the influence of drugs.  He was arrested for multiple traffic violations and for CDS Administer Equipment/Possession/Distribute.  One of the passengers, Meagan Ricker, 24, also from Lusby, was arrested for Theft, Possession of CDS (Alprazolam) and also for CDS Administer Equipment/Possession/Distribute.  They were both transported to the Detention Center.

Theft Case #15-67314:

On December 15, 2015, Deputy R. Wilson responded to White Sands Drive in Lusby for the report of a missing dog.  Sometime between 10:00am - 1:15pm someone stole the victim’s 9 - month old, white/tan American Terrier puppy.  Anyone with information on this theft is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

CDS Violation Case #15-67817:

On December 17, 2015, Deputy T. Holt conducted a traffic stop on Catalina Drive, in Lusby and discovered the driver, Collin Gantt, 20, of Lusby, to be in possession of paraphernalia (digital scale).   He was arrested for the paraphernalia, issued multiple traffic citations and transported to the Detention Center for processing.

On December 18, 2015, while Deputy G. Gott was responding to the call for a disorderly subject on Langley Lane, in Solomons, he discovered Eric James Gallodoro, 25, of Solomons, to be in possession of paraphernalia (hypodermic syringe) and oxycodone.  He was arrested and transported to the Detention Center.

CDS Violation Case #15-67216:

On December 14, 2015 Deputy C. Fox conducted a traffic stop on Bay Avenue/5^th Street.  He made contact with the driver, Dana Nelson, 32, of North Beach, who was driving in an unsafe manner.  She was arrested for DWI and possession of two (2) controlled dangerous substances (Alprazolam and Oxycontin).

Destruction of Property Case #15-68304:

On December 20, 2015 Deputy J. Migliaccio was dispatched to Shiloh Lane, in Prince Frederick, for the report of a destruction of property.  A window on a house under construction was broken by an unknown object.  There are no suspects or witnesses at this time.

Theft Case #15-67983:

On December 18, 2015 Deputy C. Idol was dispatched to the Prince Frederick Walmart store for a theft that had just occurred.  He stopped Holly Brown, 31, of Virginia Beach, VA and James Maddox, 27, of no fixed address.  They were both arrested for Theft $1000. - $10,000; James Maddox was also arrested for possession of paraphernalia (baggie).

Theft Case #15-67314:

On December 15, 2015 Deputy R. On December 14, 2015 Deputy G. Gott responded to Red Cloud Road, Lusby, for the report of a theft of a Spectrum laser flood light.  The theft took place sometime during 5:00pm - 7:00pm and was stolen from the victim’s front yard.  If anyone observed anything suspicious, they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

PRESS RELEASE FOR JUVENILE STRUCK BY VEHICLE IN PRINCE FREDERICK

On December 15, 2015 at approximately 1458 hours members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the area of Radio Drive and South Solomons Island Road, Prince Frederick, Maryland for the report of a serious motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. 

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Chevy Sonic was traveling Southbound on Solomons Island Road in the area of Radio Drive.  The vehicle was in the right turn lane for West Dares Beach Road.  Traffic in Lanes 1 and 2 were both stopped when a 14 year old female juvenile attempted to cross all lanes of traffic from the North Side of Solomons Island Road.  The juvenile was struck by the Chevy Sonic when she entered the turn lane. The juvenile impacted the 2013 Chevy Sonic on the driver’s side front panel.  The juvenile sustained critical injuries and was transported to Johns Hopkins Medical Center by the Maryland State Police Aviation Unit. 

    The 2013 Chevy Sonic was operated by Tami M. McDowell, a 39 year old female of Prince Frederick. McDowell was uninjured and remained on the scene to be interviewed by Sheriff’s Office personnel. There is no indication that speed or driver error contributed to this crash.

Burglary Case #15-65678:

On December 7, 2015 Deputy V. O’Donnell was called to Duke Street in Prince Frederick for the report of a destruction of property and possible burglary.  It was discovered James Dugan, 25, of Chesapeake Beach had broken a window and entered the building.  He was transported to the Detention Center and charged with 3^rd Degree Burglary and Destruction of Property.

CDS Violation Case #15-66638:

On December 11, 2015, Deputy C. Callison was on a lookout for a vehicle reported to be operating in an unsafe manner near the area of Route 4/Plum Point Road.  He stopped Marguerite Hangliter, 51, of Montross, VA and arrested her for multiple traffic violations and two (2) counts of possession of CDS (Adderall and Alprazolam).

CDS Violation Case #15-66806:

On December 12, 2015, while Deputy V. O’Donnell attempted to assist a motorist on Long Leaf Lane, in Dunkirk, he discovered the driver, William King, 39, of Dunkirk to be under the influence.  He was charged with two (2) counts of CDS possession (Alprazolam and Suboxone), possession of paraphernalia (glass smoking device) and multiple of traffic offenses.

CDS Violation Case #15-66281:

On December 10, 2015, while Deputy K. Williamson was on routine patrol at the 7-11 on Dalrymple Road, Sunderland, he observed a customer to be in possession of illegal paraphernalia.  Christopher Radzyniak, 28, of Lusby, was transported to the Detention Center and charged with possession of Heroin and Paraphernalia (spoon).

CDS Violation Case #15-66206:

On December 9, 2015, while Deputy G. Gott was on routine patrol on Rousby Hall Road, Lusby, he observed a vehicle operating in an unsafe manner.  He stopped the driver, Daniel Morgan, 38, of Hollywood, MD and discovered he was in possession of Oxycontin & paraphernalia (wrapper).  He was transported to the Detention Center and released to correctional staff.

On December 9, 2015, Deputy C. Ward was on a lookout for a vehicle reported to be driving recklessly all over the road.  He stopped the driver, Matthew Mercer, 42, of Martinsburg, WV and arrested him for driving under the influence of PCP and several other traffic offenses.

Destruction of Property Case #15-66275:

On December 10, 2015, Deputy K. Williamson responded to a reported destruction of property at the Calvert trash compactor site on Hunting Creek Road, in Huntingtown.  Bullet holes were found to have damaged a window sometime between 7:00pm on December 9 - 7:30am on December 10.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

On December 8, 2015, Deputy C. Callison was called to the Applebees Restaurant in Prince Frederick, for the report of a disorderly subject.  Upon his arrival, Tremayne Pride, 39, of Prince Frederick continued to act disorderly.  He was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Resisting/Interfering with Arrest.  While being processed at the Detention Center, he was found to be in possession of Carisoprodol, which he was also charged with.

On December 8, 2015, Deputy Y. Bortchevsky responded to a call on Lazy River Road, in Lusby for the report of a disorderly subject.  Brandy Damron, 32, of California, MD was ultimately charged and arrested for making arson threats.

Motor Vehicle Theft Case #15-65657:

On December 7, 2015, members of the Sheriff’s Office responded to Hoile Lane, Huntingtown, for the report of a stolen vehicle.  The victim’s unlocked vehicle, with its’ keys still with the vehicle, was last seen on December 6 at 10:30pm, parked in his driveway.  An additional vehicle, also at the same location, had a window broken and a wallet, driver license, cash and credit card were all stolen.  If anyone has information on this crime, they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Theft Case #15-66636:

On December 11, 2015, Deputy R. Kreps was dispatched to Fairwood Drive, Huntingtown, for the report of a stolen 10’ basketball goal.  The goal was later discovered abandoned on the side of a nearby road and fortunately, was not damaged.

Theft Case #15-66137:

On December 9, 2015, Deputy K. Williamson was dispatched to Buckler Road, in Huntingtown, for the report of a theft.  Someone had stolen two (2) copper grounding strips from the cell tower located on Buckler Road.  It is unknown when the theft took place.

Theft Case #15-66729:

Deputy J. McCarroll was dispatched to Ashwood Drive in Dunkirk for the report of a Fed-Ex package having been stolen.  An outdoor hooded work coat was to be delivered on December 11.  If anyone has information, they are asked to please contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Theft Case #15-66013:

On December 8, 2015, Deputy T. Holt responded to Sachen Drive, Lusby, for the report  of stolen mail.  This theft would have taken place between November 25 - 30^th.

Theft Case #15-65888:

On December 8, 2015, Deputy A. Curtain responded to the report of a theft, which took place from a construction trailer located on Mt Harmony Road, in Owings.  Sometime between 4:30pm on December 7 and 7:00am the next morning, the master locks had been cut and the entrance door was pried open.  The suspect(s) stole a Mikasa Motorized Tamper, Stihl Rock Saw, Top Can self-leveling land surveying laser, Rigid electric drill, Mikita stone grinder and Walker Neuson motorized tamper.  Anyone who may have seen a suspicious person in the area is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Theft Case #15-65784:

On December 14, 2015, Deputy S. Moran was called to Williams Wharf Road, St. Leonard, for the report of a stolen gun.  The victim stated that around October 4^th he set out his Browning BPS 10 gauge shotgun, in anticipation of the upcoming hunting season.  He did not realize it was missing until early in November when family and friends had reported not seeing the gun.
