The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, along with Calvert County Parks
& Recreation, will be hosting the second annual Camp Junior Sheriff July 6
through 10 at Cove Point Park in Lusby.
The camp will be for children in grades six through eight and will run
from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost is

TIKI BAR DESIGNATED DRIVER PROGRAM
Bob Hall, LLC and Anheuser Busch, working together with the Calvert
County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, the Calvert Alliance Against
Substance Abuse and the Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties Community Traffic
Safety Programs are sponsoring a Designated Driver program to be held during
the annual opening of the Tiki Bar. The
program will run Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18 from noon to 10:00
p.m.
Designated drivers who register will win an instant prize ranging from
can coolies, sunglasses, and coolers to Grill SGT BBQ gift cards and more.
Designated drivers will sign a pledge card, which will be entered into a
drawing for four grand prizes. This
year’s first prize package is a $1,000 voucher toward a 6 night/7 day cruise
for two on Carnival Line plus $200 cash, the second prize will be four
Washington Nationals Baseball Tickets plus $150 in cash, a $250 total
value. Third prize is a $50 Tiki Bar
gift card and $100 in cash and the fourth prize is a $50 Visa card from the
CAASA Designated Driver Rewards Program.
The registration booth is located near the Tiki Bar entrance.
Sheriff Mike Evans will draw the grand prize tickets during a ceremony at
the Sheriff’s Office on Monday, April 27th at 1:00 in the afternoon.
The public is invited to attend.
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police, as well as
law enforcement from neighboring jurisdictions, will be conducting DUI
saturation patrols throughout the weekend as part of Maryland’s “Checkpoint
Strikeforce - Over the Limit, Under Arrest” campaign. These enforcement efforts are funded through
the State Highway Administration’s Maryland Highway Safety Office and will
continue throughout the spring and summer months. Areas where a high number of DUI arrests or
crashes have occurred in the past will be targeted for enforcement efforts.

Dep. W. Rector is investigating the theft of cash from an unlocked
vehicle parked outside a home in the 7800 block of Lake Shore Drive in Owings
overnight between April 8 and 9.
Dep. A. Ostazeski is also investigating the theft of cash from a
vehicle parked in the 3400 block of Evans Road in Huntingtown between April 9
and 10.

19706:
Dep. W. Rector is investigating the theft of cash from an unlocked

CDS Violation Case #15-19776:
On April 10 at 9:54 p.m. Dep. C. Ward went to assist a vehicle he saw
leave the roadway and travel through a field after the driver appeared to have
lost control on Mt. Harmony Road in Owings.
Dep. Ward made contact with the driver who had exited the vehicle to
check for damages. The driver appeared
unhurt. Dep. Ward observed the driver to
have slow, slurred speech and droopy eyelids.
The driver was identified as Christopher Michael Shaner, 23, of
Chesapeake Beach. Shaner was charged
with driving under the influence. A
search incident to arrest revealed suspected drugs. Shaner was also charged with possession of
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia; a
hypodermic needle.

Theft Case #15-19969:
On April 11 at 7:27 p.m. Dep. D. Clark responded to the Prince
Frederick Walmart for the report of a theft.
Upon arrival he made contact with the loss prevention officer who
advised that he had observed Cynthia Lee Sita, 51, of Huntingtown, putting
items in her purse and then leaving the store without paying. Clark arrested Sita and charged her with
theft less than $1,000.

CDS Violation Case #15-20077:
On April 12 at 8:47 a.m. Dep. G. Gott conducted a traffic stop on a
vehicle at Md. Rt. 4 and the Thomas Johnson Bridge in Solomons. He found the driver, John Lloyd Stevenson,
22, of Parkville, to be in possession of suspected drugs. Stevenson was arrested and charged with
possession of marijuana in sufficient quantity to indicate an intent to
distribute, possession of marijuana in the amount of at least 10 grams, and use
of drug paraphernalia; a metal grinder.

APRIL IS DISTRACTED DRIVING AWARENESS MONTH
Maryland’s statewide program supports the national distracted driving campaign and includes a combination of targeted advertising and high-visibility enforcement in an effort to change behavior and save lives. Law enforcement will be aggressively enforcing Maryland’s handheld cell phone and texting laws during Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Distracted driving is any activity that diverts a
person's attention away from the primary task of driving. All distractions endanger driver, passenger
and bystander safety. Because text messaging requires visual, manual and
cognitive attention from the driver, it is by far one of the most alarming
distractions.
“Texting or using your phone while driving is extremely dangerous. It creates a crash risk up to 23 times higher and puts people’s lives in jeopardy. Law enforcement officers are out stopping and ticketing people that are breaking our handheld cell phone laws. If you have a phone in one hand, you’ll have a ticket in the other,” said Sheriff Mike Evans.
Violating
Maryland’s distracted driving laws can be costly. Drivers can be ticketed for
writing, sending or reading a text or electronic message while driving. The
fine is $70 and 1 point on your license and may increase to $110 and 3 points
if use of the device contributes to a crash. Fines for using a handheld cell
phone are $83 for the first offense, $140 for the second offense and $160 for
the third offense. In addition, any driver that causes serious injury or death while talking on a handheld cell phone
or texting may receive a prison sentence of up to 3 years and a fine of up to
$5,000. Drivers are on their provisional license face event tougher penalties
as any violation of these laws may
result in a suspension of driving privileges.
Lt. Sean Morris offered this advice to drivers: “Drive
responsibly - park the phone before you drive. Keep yourself and your
passengers safe by keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all
times. Driving is not the time to talk or text on a
cell phone”

PRESS RELEASE FOR BREEZY POINT MARKET ROBBERY
On Wednesday, March 25, just before 9:00 p.m. a lone suspect
entered the Breezy Point Market, located at 3885 Breezy Point Road, Chesapeake
Beach, Calvert County, Maryland, to rob the business. The suspect is a white female approximately 5’2”
to 5’4” tall with a medium build. She
was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, camouflage mask, blue jeans and light
brown shoes. The suspect possessed,
displayed and activated a black hand held Taser (AKA: stun gun) during the
armed robbery and threatened the employees with it as she made demands. Prior to fleeing the scene, she threatened
the employees stating she would return with a firearm and commit another armed
robbery. The female suspect fled from
the Breezy Point Market on foot and got into a light colored sedan, which was
parked across the street at the entrance to the Pinewood Acres
subdivision. No one was injured during
the robbery. Anyone with information is asked

PRESS RELEASE FOR DUNKIRK 7-11 ROBBERY
On March 27 at about 3:17 a.m. the clerk at the Dunkirk 7-11
convenience store, located at 2840 West Chesapeake Beach Road, was robbed. The clerk reported that a man entered the
store and ordered and paid for an item.
As he was leaving the store, a second man entered and also approached
the clerk and purchased an item. He then
walked behind the counter and demanded money from the register. The suspect took an undetermined amount of
cash from the register and both men fled the scene in an unknown
direction. The clerk was not hurt. Anyone with information is asked to contact
