On Friday August 17, 2018 members of the Calvert
County Robotics 4-H Club visited the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office to deliver
bags of items that the children had collected as part of their State Fair LEGO
Robotics Challenge. These bags called “Buddy Bags” contain items such as coloring books, crayons,
stuffed animals, and books. The 4-H members decided to collect items for Buddy Bags for their Community Service
Project. Since the theme for this year is “First Responders”, the 4-H Club
wanted to do a community service project that would help the Calvert County
Sheriff’s Office provide something to comfort children in a time of crisis.
These Buddy Bags will be carried
in the Deputy’s patrol vehicles for them to hand out on calls where children
may be involved. These Buddy Bags
will hopefully help to comfort the children by showing them that the police are
their friends and that they can trust them. The Calvert County Robotics 4-H
Club collected enough items to provide 60 Buddy Bags
to the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Mike Evans is looking forward to working with
the club again in the future in hopes of assembling additional Buddy Bags to help the children in our
communities.
