PRESS RELEASE FOR MOTORCYCLE PURSUIT WITH APPREHENSION
On September 28th at approximately 1635 hours, a pursuit of six sport-bike style motorcycles was initiated by Dfc. Velasquez and D/S Buck on Rt. 4 in the St. Leonard area. The motorcycles were traveling in excess of 100 mph. D/S Ward pulled in front of the motorcycles as they approached Rt. 4 and the south entrance of Main St. in Prince Frederick. The motorcycles then split up, with two turning down Main St., two making a U-turn and going back south on Rt. 4, and one continuing north on Rt. 4. D/S Ward along with other units continued to pursue the motorcycle that continued north on Rt. 4. Units lost sight of that motorcycle and the pursuit was terminated. A short time later, a citizen called the Sheriff's Office and advised that they had witnessed the pursuit and saw one of the motorcycles involved in the pursuit turn into the trailer park at the end of German Chapel Rd. Units responded to German Chapel Rd. and contacted the subject. D/S ward was able to identify the motorcycle and the subject as being one of the subjects that made a U-turn and went back south on Rt. 4. The subject was identified as David Anthony Madison II, D.O.B. 06/06/90, 356 Sunshine Way, Westminster, MD. Madison was run through Field sobriety tests and performed poorly. He was arrested for DUI.
PRESS RELEASE FOR MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT - PEDESTRIANS STRUCK
On September 27, 2014 at approximately 0908 hours, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to Maryland Route 260 and Saint Andrews Drive, Chesapeake Beach, Maryland 20732 for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two pedestrians. Preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Hyundai passenger vehicle operated by Megan Sullivan (29) of Chesapeake Beach, Md. had entered the roadway from Saint Andrews Drive and for unknown reasons left the travel portion of the roadway and struck two pedestrians who were jogging on the shoulder. The pedestrians were identified as Katie Allen (28) of Owings, Md and Thomas Molino (20) of Lothian, Md. Members of the Dunkirk and North Beach Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and initially treated Allen and Molino who were later transported to Prince George’s Hospital Center via Maryland State Police Medevac. Allen and Molino are listed in Stable condition. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was the first to call 911. No charges have been made at this time.

Theft Case #14-53782:
Unknown suspect(s) stole $3,000 worth of welding rods and copper wire
from a business on Industrial Drive in Owings sometime between September 19 and

Theft from Vehicles Case #14-53898:
Six vehicles parked outside a business on Investment Court in Owings
were broken into on September 23 between 3:30 and 4:30 in the morning. The suspect(s) broke windows and door handles
to gain access to the inside of the vehicles to steal radios, batteries, cables
and instrument clusters. The total
amount of damage and theft is $1,850.

Destruction of Property Case #14-53958:
Someone spray painted the boards of the board walk at the Wetlands
Overlook Park in North Beach between September 22 and 23. The amount of damage is estimated at
$500. Dep. W. Beisel is investigating.
CDS Violation Case #14-54088:
On September 24 at 10:20 a.m. DFC R. Cress conducted a traffic stop on
a vehicle in the parking lot of the Huntingtown 7-11 convenience store. He found the driver, William Thomas Murphy,
38 of Prince Frederick, to be driving on a revoked license and to be in
possession of suspected drugs. Murphy
was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of
oxycodone.

Burglary Case #14-54287:
Someone entered a barn located behind a home on Holland Cliffs Road in
Huntingtown and damaged two Jet Skis’ mirrors and speedometers that were kept
inside. The culprit(s) also broke 16
single pane glass windows on the barn.
Total damage is estimated at $5,000.
The damage occurred overnight between September 24 and 25. Dep. W. Rector is handling the investigation.
Theft Case #14-54447:
A citizen called police on September 26 at 2:43 p.m. to report that she
had just observed 2 black men walk out of Peebles Department Store in Prince
Frederick each carrying an armload of folded clothes. The two men got into a waiting vehicle driven
by a third male and the car then sped away.
Initial inventory by store personnel revealed that approximately $3,000
in clothing was stolen. Anyone with
information is asked to contact Dep. J. Buck at 410-535-2800.
Destruction of Property Case #14-54670:
Someone caused
$1,500 in damage to a vehicle parked outside a home on Covenant Court in Owings
when they ripped off the driver door handle.
It does not appear that entry inside the vehicle was made and nothing
was taken. The damage occurred overnight
between September 25 and 26. Dep. J.
Buck is investigating.
CDS Violation Case #14-54793:
On September 28
at 3:54 a.m. Dep. M. Trigg observed a vehicle sitting in the travel portion of
the roadway at Dares Beach Road and Double Oak Road in Prince Frederick. He made contact with the 2 occupants of the
vehicle. He found the passenger, Patrick
Kyle Gonyo, 18 of Huntingtown, to be in possession of less than 10 grams of
marijuana and charged him.

Destruction of Property Case #14-54811
& 54851:
Unknown
suspect(s) spray painted graffiti on two vehicles and a lamp post at a home on
Blackberry Lane in Prince Frederick and another vehicle on Whispering Drive
during the early morning hours on September 28.
The windows of another home on Whispering Drive and the mailbox all had
graffiti on them. Dep. J. Buck is
investigating.

PRESS RELEASE FOR GOOD DAY STORE ROBBERY ARRESTS
On Sunday, August 3 at 3:43 p.m. an employee at the Good Day Market
located in Prince Frederick advised the Calvert Control Center that the store
had been robbed. Preliminary investigation
revealed that a white male with a beard, in his 20’s to early 30’s with a large
frame of 6’ to 6’-4” and weighing 210 to 250 pounds entered the store. This subject approached the counter and asked
for cigarettes. While the sole employee
was ringing up the item, the man handed her a note telling her to give him all
the money. The clerk complied and the
suspect then left the store. A witness
in the parking lot advised police that he saw the suspect get into a small
vehicle on the passenger side and leave the scene. No one was injured during the robbery.
Follow-up investigation by Det. H. Rich of the Calvert Investigative
Bureau revealed two possible suspects in this case, the suspect who entered the
store and the suspect driver of the vehicle.
Det. Rich was subsequently able to request the issuance of arrest
warrants for Thomas Brian Smith, Jr., 34, of Prince Frederick, driver of the
vehicle, and Ronald Franklin Brown, Jr., 33, of Leonardtown. Both men were arrested on September 21. Smith has been charged with armed robbery,
conspiracy to commit armed robbery, second degree assault, conspiracy to commit
second degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, conspiracy to
use a firearm during a violent crime and handgun in vehicle. Brown has been charged with the same first
six offenses as Smith, but is also charged with handgun on person, theft $1,000
to under $10,000 and conspiracy to commit theft $1,000 to under $10,000.

Theft Case #14-52651:
Dep. S. Moran responded to the Prince Frederick Walmart on September 16
shortly after noon for the report of a shoplifter in custody. Moran made contact with a store
theft-prevention employee and the suspect, identified as Frances Elaine Butler,
67 of Aquasco. Butler was observed by
the employee placing store merchandise into a bag and exiting the store without
stopping to pay for the items. Butler
was placed under arrest for theft less than $1,000.

Theft of Mail Case #14-52838:
A victim on Ashwood Drive in Dunkirk advised DFC Y. Bortchevsky that she
put an addressed greeting card in her mailbox and propped up the red flag for
it to be picked up by a postal employee.
Shortly afterward, she observed a passenger vehicle pull up to her mailbox
then drive away. The victim walked to
her mailbox and opened it and discovered an opened envelope addressed to
someone she did not know and her own envelope was gone. DFC Bortchevsky is continuing the
investigation.
Burglary Case #14-52863:
Sometime between September 13 and 16 someone broke into a home on
Holland Cliffs Road in Huntingtown.
Nothing appears to have been stolen.

Mail Tampering Case #14-53131:
DFC J. Lord is investigating a case of apparent mail tampering at a
residence on Fawn Lane in Owings that occurred during daytime hours on
September 18. The victim reports that
there was a prescription bag in her mailbox addressed to her that was open,
however, the prescription drugs inside the bag were not taken. The investigation continues.
CDS Violation Case #14-53441:
On September 20 at 1:03 p.m. Dep. A. Curtin arrested Christina
Elizabeth Pratt, 52 of Owings, after he responded to her home address for a
call for a person using drugs in the home.
Another resident had called police to report Pratt was using drugs. After a consent to search, Pratt was found to
be in possession of crack cocaine and a smoking device and was charged
accordingly. (No photo available).
CDS Violation Case #14-53528:
Dep. N. Gilmore conducted a traffic stop on September 20 at 11:20 p.m.
at the Shell gas station in Prince Frederick.
The passenger, Ami Blair Zimmerman, 29 of Galesville, was arrested and
charged with possession of Alprazolam, possession of Clonazepam, and two counts
of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Attempted Burglary Case #14-53549:
On September 21 at 1:30 a.m. a homeowner on Dixies Land Circle in
Huntingtown advised Dep. W. Rector that someone tried to kick his front door
open. The culprit(s) was scared off
before the homeowner could identify them.
No entrance was made into the residence.
CDS Violation Case #14-53597:
On September 21 at 12:41 p.m. Dep. S. Moran conducted a traffic stop on
a vehicle at Dalrymple Road and Sunderleigh Drive in Sunderland. He found the driver, Rita Marie Wood, 22 of
Chesapeake Beach, to be in possession of suspected drugs. Wood was arrested and charged with possession
of Oxycodone and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; dollar
bills.

Dep. A. Curtin is investigating damage done to a vehicle overnight
between September 20 and 21 on Willows Road in Chesapeake Beach. Someone scratched letters into the paint, the
drivers’ side rear view mirror was cracked and eggs were broken on the
windshield. The investigation continues.

Burglary Case #14-51272:
On September 9 at 11:20 a.m. DFC M. Velasquez arrested Michael Peter
Trybus, 18, of Lusby, and charged him with one count each of first, third and
fourth degree burglary. Trybus was
observed by a neighbor of a home on Buckskin Court in Lusby hanging around the
outside of the home and then could be seen inside the house. DFC Velasquez responded to the call and saw a
suspect matching the description given running down the street. He stopped and made contact with the suspect,
who was then identified as Trybus. The
homeowner arrived and stated that nothing appeared to be missing.

CDS Violation Case #14-51771:
On September 11 at 11:00 p.m. Dep. M. Trigg observed a vehicle drifting
in and out of its lane while traveling northbound on Md. Rt. 4 near Traskers
Blvd. and conducted a traffic stop at Auto Drive. He found the driver, Eugene Holmes, Jr., 37
of Upper Marlboro, to be in possession of suspected drugs and drug
paraphernalia. He was charged with
possession of K2/Spice (Scooby Snax) and rolling papers.

CDS Violation Case #14-51984:
On September 12 at 10:26 p.m. Dep. C. Idol was patrolling the Prince
Frederick Food Lion parking lot when a minivan, driving at a high rate of speed,
drove toward him in the officer’s lane, then swerved back into the correct
travel lane and passed the officer. Idol
conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle behind the Prince Frederick Library on
Costley Way. The driver, Christopher
Dylan Hinds, 19 of Huntingtown, was charged with possession of marijuana and
drug paraphernalia; a smoking device.

Theft Case #14-52100:
Someone stole a ten foot aluminum boat from the boat rack at Lake
Lariat in Lusby between July 15 and August 15.
The boat has a black saw tooth pattern and the initials KM painted on
the underside. It is valued at
$500. Dep. J. Buck is investigating.
Theft Case #14-52108:
A black Trail Star trailer, measuring 4 feet by 8 feet with a green and
black Honda Foreman 500 All-Terrain Vehicle on it, was stolen from the driveway
of a home in the 11600 block of Big Sandy Run Road in Lusby. The trailer and ATV are valued at
$4,900. The trailer has a Virginia
license plate. Anyone with information
is asked to contact DFC G. Gott at 410-535-2800.
Attempted Burglary Case #14-52233:
Cpl. M. Naecker is investigating an attempted burglary at a home in the
3300 block of Woodridge Avenue in Port Republic that occurred between August 29
and September 13. Someone cut the
screens on the home’s windows and broke a door latch on the front porch. It does not appear that entry was made into
the home or that anything was stolen.

EDMOND GRAFTON YOUNG, JR - CALVERT COUNTY
Edmond Grafton Young, Jr., better known as “E.G.,” was born on May 22, 1979 in Annapolis, Maryland. He was the only son of Margaret and Edmond G. Young, Sr. He departed this life on September 11, 2001.
Edmond attended Peters U.M.C. where he served as a Youth Choir and Usher Board member. He attended Mt. Harmony Elementary and Northern Middle and High Schools. While in high school his interest in computers led him to the Calvert Career Center. Later, he received an Associate degree in Computer Applications and Network Administration at the Computer Learning Center (CLC) in 1999. While attending CLC, he worked part time at Safeway in Dunkirk, Maryland. He successfully completed two of the seven Microsoft certification exams. He further enhanced his knowledge by working part time for Global Computer Consultants, Inc.
Edmond began his career as a Helpdesk Analyst for CACI. Later, he became a Desktop Support Technician for BTG, Inc. He was transferred to the Pentagon earlier this year where he supported the DCSPER Army Division. On September 11th at 9:38 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon as he worked on a General’s computer. He was listed as missing for nine days. Edmond enjoyed mentoring teens, playing basketball, and spending time with his friends. The highlight of his life was the birth of his son, Stephan, with Jonette Ramona Mackall on May 26, 1997. He was a devoted and extremely generous father who cherished every moment he spent playing with and nurturing his son.

Investigator Clyde Frazier was killed in the September 11, 2001,
terrorist attacks while attempting to rescue the victims trapped in the World
Trade Center.
He had been employed with the New York State Office of Tax Enforcement for 13 years.

suspect(s) stole $200 worth of copper pipe and twelve electric motors worth
$1,000 from a barn in the 1900 block of Solomons Island Road in Huntingtown
between September 2 and 5.

Theft from Vehicle Case #14-49669:
DFC P. Mosely is investigating the theft of a wallet from an unsecured
vehicle while it was parked in the 2800 block of Lochness Drive in Chesapeake
Beach. The victim states that his
wallet, which was under his front seat, and its contents, consisting of cash
and identification cards, was stolen on September 1 between 7:00 and 7:20 p.m.
Fleeing and Eluding, CDS Violation Case
#14-49714:
On September 2, shortly after midnight, DFC R. Cress was traveling on
Mikes Way in Owings. He observed a
vehicle that had been pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway suddenly leave
the area at a high rate of speed. DFC
Cress and Tpr. Lewis of the Maryland State Police, each operating their patrol
vehicles, attempted to catch up to the vehicle on Briscoe Turn Road. DFC Cress continued to Md. Rt. 4 and observed
the vehicle traveling southbound, then make a U-turn and begin to travel
north. DFC Cress activated his emergency
equipment but the vehicle failed to stop and turned onto Skinners Turn
Road. The vehicle was still traveling at
a high rate of speed and crossed the center line several times. The vehicle then turned left onto Ginger
Lane, into the industrial park, then out of the industrial park back onto Skinners
Turn Road, where it turned left onto Clyde Jones Road. The vehicle then drove through a yard at the
end of the roadway and attempted to turn around but was blocked by Tpr. Lewis’
patrol vehicle. The driver jumped out of
the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.
Cress located the suspect behind some thick brush and he was ordered to
put his hands behind his back but he failed to comply, keeping his hands concealed. He was asked again to display his hands but
would not so a Taser charge was applied to his body. He was then handcuffed and taken into
custody. He is identified as Ryan Ford
Gallagher, 36, of Owings. Gallagher was
transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital for treatment of the deployed Taser, and
then transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. Gallagher has been charged with resisting
arrest, possession of marijuana less than 10 grams, destruction of property
less than $1,000 and numerous traffic violations. Gallagher was found to have an outstanding
warrant out of Circuit Court in Calvert County.

Burglary Case #14-49826:
Someone burglarized a home on Paulowina Lane in Prince Frederick during
the daytime hours on September 2. A
PlayStation, controllers, and games were stolen. Dep. L. Kelly is investigating.
Theft from Vehicle Case #14-49873:
A woman reported to DFC P. Wood that at 8:00 a.m. on September 2 she
parked her car at Plum Point Middle School in Huntingtown and went on a field
trip with her son. When she returned at
3:30 p.m. she noticed that cash and a credit card had been stolen from her
purse, which had been left inside the vehicle.
The victim states that she thought she had locked the vehicle. No marks could be seen on the vehicle
indicating someone pried open a door.
DFC Wood is still investigating.
Burglary Case #14-50309:
Sometime between 6:00 p.m. on September 3 and 5:22 p.m. on September 4,
unknown suspect(s) burglarized a shed behind a home in the 3900 block of
Dogwood Road in Port Republic. The
culprit(s) stole a Razor MX 650 electric motorcycle valued at $500. Dep. J. buck is investigating.
Theft Case #14-50317:
A pair of Portage Pal Kayak wheels, worth $400, were stolen when the
owners were kayaking off Matoaka Lane in St. Leonard on September 4 between
1:30 and 5:30 p.m. Dep. J. Buck is
continuing the investigation.
Theft Case #14-50479:
A victim in the 1900 block of Solomons Island Road in Huntingtown
advised DFC R. Kreps that between September 2 and 5 someone stole $200 worth of
copper pipe and twelve electric motors worth $1,000 from a barn on his
property. The investigation continues.
Theft from Vehicle Case #14-50544:
A Nokia cell phone and cash was stolen from a vehicle on September 5 in
the afternoon. The victim reports that
he went inside two businesses, The World Gym and PNC Bank, both in Prince
Frederick, so it not known at this time where the theft occurred. He noticed the items missing once he arrived
at home. DFC R. Wilson is investigating.
Theft Case #14-50719:
A green Next bicycle with 20 inch tires was stolen from the front porch
of a home in the 1000 block of Rimrock Road in Lusby overnight between
September 5 and 6. Dep. D. Naughton is
investigating.
Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct
Case #14-50842:
On September 7 at 4:00 a.m. DFC P. Wood responded to the Prince
Frederick WaWa convenience store for the report of a disorderly female. Upon his arrival, Wood made contact with the subject,
identified as Whitney Nicole Buckler, 22, of Prince Frederick. Buckler had caused a scene inside the
convenience store. Buckler and a friend
were asked to leave and were told to call a friend to pick them up because they
were not sober. Immediately thereafter,
their vehicle was seen leaving the WaWa and a traffic stop was conducted by DFC
J. Livingston. DFC Wood responded to
assist. While Livingston was attempting
a sobriety test with the driver, Buckler, who had been the passenger, kept
interfering with the investigation being conducted by Livingston. Buckler was advised to stop or be placed
under arrest for obstructing. Buckler
started screaming and when deputies attempted to place her under arrest she
began pulling away and threw herself on the ground. She continued screaming and trying to pull
back and push herself off the patrol vehicle.
She prevented the deputies from placing her in the back seat of the
patrol vehicle so a cage car was requested.
Once placed inside the cage car, Buckler started spitting on the windows
of the vehicle. She was transported to
the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with obstructing and hindering,
failure to obey a lawful order, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and

OFFICER MOIRA SMITH, NYPD
Officer Moira Smith was killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks while attempting to rescue the victims trapped in the World Trade Center. Officer Smith was the first officer to report the terrorist attack when she witnessed the first plane strike the first tower.
She was assigned to the 13th Precinct.
Officer Smith had been employed with the New York City Police Department for 13 years, and is survived by her husband, also a New York City Police Officer, and her two-year-old daughter.
Officer Smith was posthumously awarded the New York City Police Department's Medal of Honor for her heroic actions.

OFFICER WALWYN STUART, PORT AUTHORITY POLICE
Officer Walwyn Stuart was killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks while attempting to rescue the victims trapped in the World Trade Center.
Although his body was never recovered from the World Trade Center site, his handcuffs were recovered during the search.
Officer Stuart had served with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department for three years and had previously served with the New York City Police Department for five years.
He is survived by his wife and infant daughter.

Burglary Case #14-48864:
Dep. A. Ostazeski is investigating a burglary at a home in the 200
block of Thunderbird Drive in Lusby that occurred overnight between August 27
and 28. A small amount of consumable
items were stolen and $165 in damage occurred.
Concealed Weapon Case #14-48898:
On August 29 at 11:11 a.m. DFC M. Quinn responded to the Prince
Frederick McDonald’s for the report to check the welfare of a subject. Upon arrival, an employee advised that the
subject, later identified as Jeffrey Wayne Hutton, 44, of Prince Frederick,
came inside the restaurant and appeared “drunk”. Quinn made contact with Hutton who was seated
in the driver’s seat of his vehicle in the parking lot. Hutton was found to be in possession of a
butcher knife and wooden bat, both concealed about his person. He was arrested and charged.

CDS Violation Case #14-48975:
A sixteen-year-old female of Lusby was charged on a youth report with
possession of marijuana and cited for possession of a tobacco product under the
age of 18 on August 29 at 4:43 p.m. DFC
G. Gott had responded to the area of Lake Lariat in Lusby for a report of
juveniles trespassing. Ranch Club
Security personnel advised Gott that they had requested identification or
permits from the juveniles indicating they lived in the Ranch Club but the
juveniles refused. They were then asked
to leave by security personnel but refused to do so. The charged youth was released to a parent
and the remaining juveniles, two sixteen-year-old males and one
seventeen-year-old male, all of Lusby, were issued no trespass warnings.
Burglary Case #14-49010:
Copper wire worth $250 was stolen after unknown suspect(s) burglarized
a home undergoing renovation in the 9000 block of Frederick Avenue in North
Beach between August 28 and 29. DFC Y.
Bortchevsky is investigating.
Disorderly Conduct Case #14-49123:
DFC R. Weems arrested Shannon Michelle Myers, 37, of Lusby, and charged
her with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order on August 30 at
3:50 a.m. Weems first encountered Myers
about five hours earlier when he responded to a home on Thunderbird Drive for a
report of a disorderly person. The
homeowner stated they had asked Myers to leave but she wouldn’t. Myers was warned against trespassing and sent
on her way. About three hours later,
Weems responded to the Lusby Shell for the report of an unknown problem. He observed Myers again, shouting loudly and
pointing a flashlight at oncoming cars while she stood near the travel portion
of the roadway. She was sent on her
way. At 3:51 a.m. on August 30, Weems
responded to the Lusby Post Office and again came into contact with Myers, who
was banging on the windows. Myers was
arrested and charged.
