CALVERT COUNTY CRIME SOLVERS’ CASE OF THE WEEK

Calvert County Crime Solvers and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person(s) responsible for numerous incidents of graffiti in the Whispering Woods subdivision in Prince Frederick in late September of this year.  House windows, a mailbox, a lamp post and several vehicles had vulgarities written on them in both permanent and washable marker.  Damage is estimated at $200.

During the week of October 20 through October 26 deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,372 calls for service throughout the community.

Attempted Burglary Case #14-59030:

A homeowner in the 8300 block of Bayside Road in Chesapeake Beach reported to DFC C. Fox that on October 20, it appeared someone tried to break into her home through the back door.  Entry was not made and nothing was taken.  The investigation continues.

Burglary Case #14-59162:

DFC J. Lord is investigating a burglary at a home in the 10600 block of Fielder Court in Dunkirk.  A jar of money and a guitar were stolen during the break-in that happened sometime between October 18 and 20.

Destruction of Property Case #14-59314:

A homeowner on Armory Road in Prince Frederick advised DFC R. Kreps that on October 21 around 9:30 p.m. she heard a bang and when she went outside to investigate, she discovered that her cable lines had been cut.

Theft from Vehicle Case #14-59463:

DFC J. Denton is investigating the theft of a TV/stereo set from a vehicle parked outside a home on Serenity Court in Prince Frederick overnight between October 22 and 23.

Thefts from Vehicles Cases#14-59606 and 14-59709:

Vehicles at two homes on Calvert Towne Drive in Prince Frederick were entered and items were stolen from within between October 22 and 24.  The cases are being investigated by Deps. Idol and Wood.

Theft from Vehicles Case #14-59669:

Two vehicles parked outside a home on Brians Way in Lusby had items stolen from them overnight between October 23 and 24.  Dep. Trigg is investigating.

Burglary Case #14-59943:

Dfc C. Fox is investigating a burglary to a home in the 3900 block of 17^th Street in Chesapeake Beach that happened on October 25 between 8:30 a.m. and 2:27 p.m.  A flat screen television set was taken. The investigation continues.

PRESS RELEASE FOR LUSBY SHELL ROBBERY

On Saturday October 18 at 10:05 p.m. the night clerk of the Lusby Shell on H.G. Trueman Road reported an armed robbery.  He stated that a black male entered the store, covered his face, presented a handgun, announced the robbery, threatened him with the handgun and fled the store with most of the business’ money.  Sgt. C. Parsons and Sgt. R. Cox coordinated resources and members from both the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office including the K9 team, and the Maryland State Police including their aviation department, however, no apprehension or sighting of the suspect was made.

Det. H. Rich of the Calvert Investigative Bureau determined that the lone suspect was a black male in his late 20s or early 30s.  He was short, 5’6” to 5’7” tall, with a thin to average build.  He had short, one inch long, black hair and a medium to dark complexion.   The suspect was wearing a light gray, hooded sweatshirt which he pulled around his face.    The suspect entered the store, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the clerk’s torso area then stated “give me all the money”. The suspect brought a black cloth draw string bag which he held open.  The clerk put the cash in the bag and the suspect fled.  The suspect fled past the front window of the store and was last seen running southeast into the Chesapeake Ranch Estates.  The clerk was not hurt.

Destruction of Property Case #14-57645:

On October 13 at 4:13 p.m. DFC R. Wilson arrested two men and charged them each with trespass, operating an off-road vehicle on property, destruction of property less than $1,000 and disorderly conduct.  A Chesapeake Ranch Estates Security Officer had earlier advised Wilson that he and another witness had observed the two men riding a four wheeler on the runway in CRE as well as on the roadway.  They damaged the grassy area of the runway.  The witnesses advised they saw the two men park the four wheeler at a home in CRE, then get into a passenger vehicle and leave the area.  Wilson ran the tag number of the passenger vehicle and drove over to that address.  The suspect vehicle arrived at the house and contact was made with the two suspects.  Thomas Scott Burroughs, Jr., 18 of Lusby, and Emory Jackson Baldwin, IV, 19 of St. Leonard, were arrested and charged.

Disorderly Conduct Case #14-57708:

On October 14 at 3:00 a.m. DFC P. Mosely responded to the area of Chesapeake Village Drive at Lawrin Court in Chesapeake Beach for the report of three people yelling in the street.  Mosely made contact with the three subjects.  They advised they had gotten into an argument earlier.  Mosely could detect a strong odor of alcohol.  They were advised to go home.  Fifteen minutes later Mosely received another call for disorderly subjects yelling and walking through the same neighborhood but he was unable to locate anyone.  About 15 minutes later he received a third call for the same thing.  He made contact with the same three subjects from earlier.  One of the subjects, later identified as Brenna Erin Bateman, 21 of Upper Marlboro, started to yell and curse.  Another of the subjects, later identified as Ray Clinton Kinzer, 22 of Chesapeake Beach, also began to yell.  They were both placed under arrest and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.  The third subject was not arrested and was sent on her way.

Burglary Case #14-58163:

On October 15 between 5:00 p.m. and midnight, someone entered a home in the 3900 block of 17^th Street in Chesapeake Beach and stole a 42 inch LG television set.  DFC C. Fox is investigating.

CDS Violation Case #14-58183:

On October 16 at 10:43 a.m. DFC C. Fox responded to the 9000 block of Chesapeake Avenue in North Beach for the report of a male walking around smoking a possible controlled dangerous substance.  Fox made contact with the man, identified as Robert Henry Munson, 66 of Chesapeake Beach, and subsequently issued him with a civil citation for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams.

Destruction of Property Case #14-58218:

DFC A. Locke is investigating damage done to a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in the 1800 block of Higgens Lane in Huntingtown overnight between October 15 and 16.  Someone broke out the driver’s side window.

Theft Case #14-58289:

On October 16 during the daytime hours, someone stole a green Hot Wheels bicycle on Sanford Lane in Owings.  DFC J. Migliaccio is investigating.

Destruction of Property Case #14-58606:

Someone caused damage to the yard of a home in the 70 block of Dares Wharf Road in Prince Frederick sometime between October 13 and 16.  DFC J. Denton is investigating.

Theft Case #14-58792:

Overnight entry into a vehicle was made between October 18 and 19 in the 4700 block of Williams Wharf Road in St. Leonard.  A handheld fire department radio was stolen.  Dep. T. Holt is investigating.

Theft Case #14-58825:

Between October 17 at 1:00 p.m. and October 19 someone stole a dark green Yama golf cart valued at $5,000 from outside a home in the 2700 block of Adelina Road in Prince Frederick.  The owner advised that a silver skull and crossbones logo is on the cart.  Anyone with information is asked to contact DFC R. PRESS RELEASE FOR SMOOTH OPERATOR AWARDS

    Dfc. J. Bell and Dep. W. Beisel were recently recognized by the Maryland Highway Safety Office for their outstanding efforts with the Smooth Operator program.  These Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies, as well as police officers throughout the state, attended a luncheon in Greenbelt, Maryland on September 29.  The Smooth Operator campaign targets motorists exhibiting aggressive driving behaviors. The campaign runs for five weeks throughout the summer months beginning in June and ending in September. Deputies issued a total of 1579 warnings, 873 citations and removed 63 impaired drivers from our roadways during the Smooth Operator campaign.  The funding for Smooth Operator is provided by grants through the Maryland Highway Safety Office and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 

    The CCSO is provided crash data from the Maryland Highway Safety Office and coordinates targeted enforcement efforts along problematic roadways in our communities.   There are 652 people injured on average annually from 2008 to 2012 in Calvert County crashes.  On average from 2009 to 2013 there are 9 citizens killed annually on Calvert County roadways.  The men and women of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office will continue to conduct traffic enforcement in an effort to keep Calvert County roadways safe. We will do our part to help reduce the number of citizens injured in crashes and to Work Toward Zero Deaths.
